Anxiety is not “just in your head.”
It is a whole brain and body response.

Neuroscience shows that during anxiety, the brain’s threat system becomes highly active, stress hormones are released, and the areas responsible for reasoning and emotional regulation become less accessible. This is why anxiety can feel sudden, overwhelming, physical, and difficult to control.

These reactions are not weakness. They are signs of a nervous system doing its job to protect you based on past experiences and perceived threat.

At Calvert & Associates, our work is grounded in trauma informed and neurobiologically informed care. Therapy is not about forcing calm. It is about helping the nervous system experience safety, regulation, and choice again.

Support is available.

Your nervous system is designed to protect you. When stress or trauma is ongoing, the body can remain organized around survival rather than safety.

Research in psychophysiology and trauma shows that chronic activation of survival systems affects sleep, emotions, attention, relationships, and physical health. What many people label as anxiety, burnout, or emotional numbness are often signs of a nervous system that has adapted to threat.

At Calvert & Associates, our work is grounded in trauma informed and neurobiologically informed approaches. Therapy is not about forcing calm. It is about helping the nervous system gradually experience safety, regulation, and connection again.

If this resonated, support is available.

We asked some of our therapists who work closely with children and teens one important question:
“What is one piece of advice you would give parents?”

Their answers remind us that children do not need perfection. They need presence, empathy, and connection. Small moments of listening, showing up, and believing your child can make a powerful difference.

If your child or teen is struggling with emotions, behavior, anxiety, or life changes, our team is here to support you.

Group therapy offers a unique kind of support. In a therapist led group, you are not only supported by a trained professional, but also surrounded by others who truly understand what you are navigating. Many people find that groups reduce isolation, rebuild confidence, and create space for meaningful growth and connection.

At Calvert & Associates, our therapy groups are intentionally structured to provide safety, support, and practical tools in a confidential and compassionate environment.

Our upcoming therapy groups are facilitated by Kathryn Morris, LMSW, APTT, who brings warmth, clinical expertise, and a deep commitment to helping individuals feel supported and empowered in their healing process.

We are currently accepting inquiries for upcoming therapy groups, including our Emotional Abuse Healing Therapeutic Group and our Women’s Divorce and Betrayal Therapeutic Group.

Emotional regulation is often misunderstood.
It is not about staying calm all the time or suppressing emotions.
It is about noticing what is happening inside of you and responding with intention instead of impulse.

Learning this skill takes time and compassion.
If this resonated with you, save it for later or share it with someone who needs the reminder.

As the year comes to a close, it can be easy to focus on what has not happened yet or where you wish you were by now. This is a reminder to pause and notice how far you have already come.

Growth is not always loud or visible. Sometimes it looks like continuing through hard days, learning more about yourself, or choosing to keep going when things felt uncertain.

You can honor your progress and still hold space for your hopes. Both are allowed to exist at the same time.

Where you are right now is enough.

We are accepting new clients!

As we move toward a new year, reflection can be more grounding than resolution.

These questions are an invitation to pause, notice, and gently reflect on what this year held for you. You might choose to sit with one question at a time or use them as journaling prompts to explore your thoughts more deeply. There is no right way to do this. Simply notice what comes up.

Journaling can be a quiet way to honor growth that happened behind the scenes, process what feels unfinished, and make space for what you hope to carry forward.

If reflection brings up emotions or a desire for support, we are here to walk alongside you.

Emotional abuse is not always loud or obvious. It often unfolds quietly through confusion, self doubt, and feeling like you are constantly walking on eggshells. Over time, these patterns can deeply affect your sense of self, safety, and trust.

Healing begins with understanding. You are not imagining it. You are not too sensitive. And you do not have to navigate this alone.

If you are ready to explore your experiences in a supportive and validating space, we invite you to join our Emotional Abuse Healing Therapeutic Group. Together, we focus on rebuilding identity, strengthening boundaries, and reconnecting with your inner sense of clarity and worth.

If this resonates, reach out to learn more or express interest.
