Environmental Services Week, also known as International Housekeepers Week, is celebrated annually during the second full week of September. Environmental Services Week is a time to show appreciation for the dedicated EVS personnel that ensure health care facilities across the country are clean, safe places for patients, their families and other staff members. With all the challenges and changes the last few years have brought, these staff members have remained resilient in their efforts to protect others from dangerous pathogens.

Baxter Health Outpatient Surgery Center Completes First Inspire® Therapy Procedure

Mountain Home, Arkansas — June 27th, 2023— Dr. John Neis has completed the first Inspire procedure at Baxter Health Outpatient Surgery Center. Inspire is an FDA-approved obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment option for people who cannot use Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy.
OSA affects 22 million Americans. When left untreated, OSA can cause vehicle and workplace accidents, worsening mood and memory, stroke, heart attack, and even death. It occurs when the airway collapses during sleep and blocks the flow of oxygen to the brain. The brain senses a lack of oxygen and wakes the body up just long enough to take a breath, then falls back asleep. This cycle repeats throughout the night and causes poor, disruptive sleep.
Inspire works inside the body with a patient’s natural breathing process to treat sleep apnea. Mild stimulation opens the airway during sleep, allowing oxygen to flow naturally. The patient uses a small handheld remote to turn Inspire on before bed and off when they wake up.
The Inspire system is implanted during a short, outpatient procedure. The system is placed under the skin of the neck and chest through two small incisions. Most patients return home the same day and take over-the-counter pain medications to manage pain as needed.

My name is Heather Watson, BS, RN. l am a charge nurse at OPSC, but have assisted in Preop, PACU, OR, and even the front desk! I have Worked for Baxter Health since 2009 at the Hospice House, 2 West, and the operating room at the Main hospital. I then started at the OPSC before the doors opened for surgery and am blessed to be part of the OPSC start up. I love working at the OPSC with everyone who are not only my co workers, but are my extended family. I enjoy taking care of patients from babies to our older generations. We have a team that starts each day caring for each other, which makes us successful in giving the best patient care there is!

“Hey I'm Stephanie and I work at
OPSC as a RT (R) or Registered
Radiologic Technologist. I've been a RT (R) for 8 + years now. X-Ray isn't the only thing I do at OPSC, though. I've also been trained in Central Sterile - learning all the instruments and helping to sterilize them for surgery cases, helping to pick instruments for our surgery cases, and even learning how to scrub in and help assist surgery techs and doctors during surgery cases. I love working at OPSC because of the variety of things I get to do on the daily here! You never know what all you'll get to do from day to day, which I think keeps things fun and interesting! I also love working at OPSC because we aren't only a TEAM, but a FAMILY that loves and cares about one another. We work together every day to help ensure our patients get the very best care possible!"

Renae works as a registered nurse at OPSC. Renae floats to all surgical areas including: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative areas. She is extremely versatile and is always willing to work in any area needed.
