I would like to address the recent volume of misinformation and speculation circulating about equine insurance. It can be overwhelming to keep up with, and I want to be sure you have clear, reliable information regarding your policy.

If you have any questions about your current coverage, the most direct approach is to call your agent. If your agent is unable to provide clear answers, contact the claims department for coverage questions. As agents, our role is to advocate for our insured clients—not just during uncertain times, but always. If your agent cannot provide answers, that should raise concerns.

For my part, I have held multiple conversations with my underwriters and claims adjusters to guarantee that I am providing my clients with the most accurate and up-to-date information possible.

Please know that the insurance companies I work with are genuinely committed to doing right by our insured horses and clients; they are not trying to mislead you. I can only speak for the carriers I underwrite with, but their priority is fair and responsible service.

𝐘𝐞𝐬, 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬.

Effective November 19th and until further notice, all new business, and any additions of horses to existing policies in Oklahoma and Texas involving Western disciplines (roping, barrel racing, reining/cutting, pleasure) will require an EHV-1 exclusion.

The exclusion will read:
“EHV-1/EHM. This exclusion will expire 30 days from the inception date of this policy.”

Additionally, during this period:

We will not allow any value increases on Western-use horses located in Oklahoma or Texas.
We will not allow any midterm additions of Major Medical on Western-use horses in these states.

𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞-𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲.

Helpful reminders:
🌡️Monitor horses closely for fever or neurologic signs
🛑Limit movement in/out of affected facilities
🐴Avoid nose-to-nose contact at shows/barns
🧼Disinfect tack, trailers, and equipment
📞Contact your veterinarian with any concerns
