Excellent news yesterday: All people 65 and older and those 16-64 with preexisting conditions (https://tinyurl.com/y2xxhdgk) are now eligible for vaccination. That’s the good news.

Here’s the not as good news. At this time, Atlantic Health System is scheduling Morris county patients at the Rockaway Mall but all appointments have been predictably filled. But wait! There’s 2 things you can do right now if you’re a Morris County resident that qualifies:

Get ready NJ! The federal government on Tuesday changed its recommendations on vaccines and asked states to start vaccinating people age 65 and over as well as younger people who have underlying conditions that put them at higher risk for a negative outcome.

Happy, reassured, and thankful to receive 2nd part of the Pfizer vaccine.

I’m posting this as I have heard more than enough skepticism about the vaccine, often fueled by misinformation and misconceptions about the vaccine and its risks/benefits. As a cardiologist to some of you reading this, my medical opinion is 100% IN FAVOR OF THE VACCINE. WITHOUT RESERVATION.

In case you might have questions or concerns, here are some FACTS about the vaccine from the CDC.gov:

1. None of the authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines or COVID-19 vaccines currently in development in the United States contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. This means that a COVID-19 vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19.

2. You need to get vaccinated even if you had COVID-19 already.

3. There have been more than 8 millions doses of the vaccine (both Pfizer and Moderna) and the estimated risk of serious vaccine reaction has been 11/1,000,000, which is about 0.001%.
To compare, nearly 1 in 500 residents of NJ have died from COVID. That’s correct. You’re not reading that in error. One in 500 NJ residents died from COVID but people are afraid to get a vaccine where 11 people out of one million had a reaction and the other 999,989 people where 95% safer.

Please get the vaccine. Please go to the CDC.gov for more information.
