Throughout her career in Spanish Immersion education, Patricia has championed equity, belonging, and academic excellence for all students. Now as principal, she continues to foster a school community where every child and family feels seen, valued, and empowered. 💙We’re proud to honor Mariel Joseline Islas Lopez Mooraj, M.Ed., as our Teacher of the Year at this year’s Forget-Me-Not event.

A 7th grade social studies teacher at 's Columbia Middle School, Mariel brings her lived experience as a proud undocumented immigrant into her work, creating a classroom rooted in belonging, courage, and critical thinking. A graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara and Stanford University, her journey reflects the power of community and collective action.

Inspired by her great-grandfather’s stories as a Bracero worker, Mariel teaches her students that history is not just something we learn - it’s something we shape together. Through open dialogue and inclusive spaces, she empowers young people to see themselves in history and to know that their stories matter.

Our March newsletter spotlights our work Bringing Educator Wellbeing to the Forefront at Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences ECHO.

In January, Acknowledge Alliance joined this statewide learning series to lead an important conversation on “Strengthening Teacher Wellbeing During Challenging Times.” Together with the Center for Applied Research Solutions, we explored the real and often unseen challenges educators face - from vicarious trauma and moral injury to the urgent need for stronger, systemwide supports.

This year, we directly reached more than 1,554 youth and educators across 27 schools and organizations, with an additional 11,000 students impacted through our work with teachers. That’s over 4,000 customized consultations and 23 life-saving crisis interventions for educators.

With consistent, on-campus support, educators are building resilience and restoring balance for themselves, their students, and their entire school communities. Together, we’re creating school environments where everyone feels safe, supported, and ready to thrive.

Acknowledge Alliance leads 8th Grade Circles at Redwood Middle School to help students strengthen the Project Resilience skills they’ve built in earlier years. These Circles offer students a safe space to reflect, connect with peers, and talk about friendships and school pressures.

Most students shared that the experience helped them better cope with the challenges of middle school and appreciate the power of peer support.
