Meet our newest teacher to Crave: Nicole

Nicole came to yoga through a deep love of movement, starting with gymnastics and later circus training, where strength, precision, and mastery were the focus. That all shifted during her teacher training, when the practice moved beyond shapes and into breath, awareness, and presence.

In her restorative classes, Nicole guides students through gentle, supported poses designed to release tension, calm the nervous system, and cultivate deep relaxation. She creates space for steady strength, ease, and connection, inviting students to feel the experience rather than chase the form, and to feel at home in their own bodies.

Come meet Nicole and experience her class on Sundays at 5:00pm!

Thank you to the Crave community members who came out to volunteer at Hope’s Corner this past Monday. 💛

Together we prepped and cooked a nourishing meal for members of our community living in their vehicles. It was a beautiful afternoon of service, connection, and care.

We’re so grateful for this community and the way you show up. ✨

Join us for our bi-monthly Friday evening Sound Bath, these evenings have become incredibly popular, and it’s easy to see why.

Students often leave feeling calmer, more centered, and even sleeping better. Using the soothing vibrations of EarthTones crystal bowls and her melodic vocals, Paitra guides you into a restorative experience where sound and stillness help relax the nervous system, release tension, and invite clarity and balance.

All you need to do is arrive, wear comfy clothes, and make yourself cozy. You’re welcome to bring your favorite blanket and pillow, lie down, and simply let the sound move through you. No experience is needed, just come as you are and enjoy this gentle, nurturing practice.

Featured student: Ana

Meet Ana, she’s been practicing yoga on and off for 13 years and just hit her ✨256th✨ class at Crave!

❓What sparked your initial interest?

🧘 13 years ago, while I was pursuing a Human Biology and Computer Science degree at UC Santa Cruz, I had to fulfill some general education requirements. I was tired of being sedentary in a classroom all day, so I enrolled in a yoga course. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the fundamental principles, traditions, and benefits of yoga.

❓ Do you have a favorite yoga class?

🧘🏻‍♀️ I’ve taken numerous classes at Crave, but it’s hard to pick a favorite! Each instructor brings their own unique perspective and teachings to the practice. Currently, my newfound obsession is Nikki’s Vinyasa Flow. It’s challenging, enjoyable, and invigorating, leaving me feeling alive after each class.

❓ What aspects of your yoga practice do you find most fulfilling?

🧘🏿‍♂️ One aspect that I find most fulfilling is how yoga promotes body positivity - there’s a shift from what the body looks like to what it can do. The sense of accomplishment in carving time out for myself to build flexibility, strength, and resilience is what truly fills my cup.

❓ In what way has practicing yoga influenced your life beyond the mat?

🧘🏽‍♀️ Beyond the yoga mat, my practice has instilled in me a patient approach to myself and others, whether at work, home, or with friends. By practicing deep breathing and reflection, I’ve carried this mindfulness into my daily life.

❓ Why do you love most about practicing at Crave?

🧘🏼 The sense of community, the team at Crave makes it their mission to learn your name and who you are outside of the studio. It’s definitely my second home!

Thank you, Ana! It’s inspiring to see how yoga and Crave have become such a meaningful part of your life. It’s an honor being part of your yoga journey 💕

Sometimes we turn down the lights, turn up the sparkles and crank the music to lose ourselves in the moment, to feel our heart beating and most importantly to practice being calm in the chaos.

Thank you Nikki for bringing your fire, energy and inspiration to our Friday Night Lights event 🎉

The Art of Yoga Project (AYP) is hosting their annual trauma-informed training, designed for yoga teachers, school educators, and therapists, and open to anyone who wants to expand their skill set in supporting youth who have experienced trauma.

The training covers:

✅ The Art of Yoga Project’s model of gender-responsive, strength-based, culturally-sensitive, and trauma-informed mindfulness and creative expression programming

✅ The neuroscience of developmental trauma and sequential intervention informed by the Child Trauma Academy’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, which can be adapted to any type of therapeutic programming for youth

✅ How the teen brain functions, pathways into the child welfare and juvenile justice system, and issues facing teens who have experienced trauma including commercial sexual exploitation, substance abuse, and other mental health disorders

✅ Guiding principles of cultural humility as it relates to race, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and how to honor rather than appropriate yoga and mindfulness

✅ Best practices for teaching mindfulness to this specialized population, including how to effectively manage behavioral problems and other classroom challenges

Every now and then, someone says something after class that perfectly captures why we keep coming back.

“I was on the phone with my mom this morning and I told her the day just doesn’t go as well if I don’t start it with yoga.” ~ David

Thank you David for reminding us that the practice doesn’t end when class does, it follows us into our conversations, our routines, and the rhythm of our day.

Happy Wednesday!!
