🍀💃 The St. Patty’s Day Dance Event was such a fun night!

We started with dinner at Culver’s, then headed to the dance to spend time with friends, enjoy the music, and show off our moves on the dance floor. 🎶 With plenty of food and lots of laughter, it was a great evening all around! 💚

As the Director of The Haase House, we work with Young Adults with Disabilities. But today - Jacob shared a message with me this morning that was alarming. He was working on his feelings with the music therapist, Christina. Retirement??? Was it something we did? Come to find out that he is a "jokester" and this was his April Fool's trick on us! His smile tells it all. He loves being here and we love having him as part of our THH family.

✨ Teaching Tuesday ✨

Recently, our clients took part in a Group Scoop focused on building self-confidence! Through listening, sharing, and meaningful discussion, they explored what makes them unique and how to believe in themselves.

We love seeing their voices grow stronger each week 💬💚

📚💙 We’re grateful for our wonderful partnership with the Mukwonago Community Library!

We recently welcomed Abby and Emily for a visit and tour of The Haase House, where they got to see our newly remodeled kitchen and enjoy spaghetti for lunch together with us! 🍝

They spent time chatting with our clients about their favorite books, movies, and interests, which made for a fun and meaningful visit. We appreciate the connection and look forward to many more collaborations ahead!

Awareness Leads to Inclusion! 💚

Today, The Haase House is jumping right in to boost Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day. If you haven’t already, take a moment to scroll back through our posts from this week. We’ve been featuring three amazing young adults who impress us every single day. While their physical disabilities might make some tasks harder, they simply work that much harder to find success and happiness.

They are constantly breaking stereotypes, overcoming barriers, and taking on new challenges with a positive attitude that inspires us all. 🌟We ask that you join us in recognizing the immense effort that goes into achieving success when living with a disability. Let’s celebrate their abilities, their self-determination, and their power to knock down barriers!

At The Haase House, we strive to create opportunities for our young adults to engage with our community every day. Because when we increase awareness, we pave the way for true inclusion. 🤝✨

Did you know? (Shared with credit to United Cerebral Palsy):
• It’s Unique: CP impacts movement, muscle tone, and posture, but no two individuals experience it the same way.
• Scope: It affects approximately 1 in 345 children in the United States.
• The Brain, Not the Mind: CP is a group of neurological disorders caused by brain injury or abnormal development—it is NOT contagious.
• Breaking Myths: A common misconception is that CP affects intelligence. In reality, many people with CP have average or above-average intelligence! Cerebral palsy primarily affects muscle control — not a person’s potential.

💚 Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month: Travis’s Story 💚

Travis’s journey is a wonderful example of growth, independence, and the power of learning everyday life skills.

Since attending The Haase House, Travis has developed greater independence in his daily routine. One meaningful example is how he now checks the weather each morning to decide what to wear for the day. What once required guidance is now something he does with confidence and understanding.

Travis has also grown in the kitchen. Each week, he prepares a family dinner at The Haase House to bring home and share. He takes great pride in what he creates, and that sense of accomplishment shines through. At home, he continues to build on those skills—helping cook meals, chop ingredients, and heat food in the microwave.

His independence carries over into many areas of home life. Travis helps unload and load the dishwasher, rinses dishes, and contributes to household chores like vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, and taking out the garbage. These everyday tasks reflect just how much he has learned and how capable he is.

Despite facing muscle tightness and balance challenges, Travis is dedicated to staying active and strong. He exercises whenever he can and enjoys being active with friends and family. Through activities like Tai Chi, he has improved his balance—recently showing he can stand on one leg longer than before. He also understands the importance of stretching his legs regularly, both at The Haase House and at home, to help him stay mobile and reduce the risk of tripping. His commitment to his health is a powerful reflection of his resilience.

Travis has also discovered new strengths through recreation. He has learned how to throw a frisbee with impressive skill—throwing it fast, far, and often right on target. This is something that has truly surprised those around him and is a great example of how he continues to grow in confidence and ability.

Travis’s growth goes beyond daily living skills. His reading and communication skills have improved significantly, and he has become more talkative and confident when engaging with family and friends. He is able to carry on conversations, share about his day, and connect more easily with others.

He is also building practical skills in the community, such as comparing prices at the grocery store and learning how to make thoughtful purchasing decisions.

Travis’s journey is a powerful reminder that independence is built step by step. Through consistency, support, and determination, he continues to grow into a confident and capable young adult. 💚

💚 Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month: Amelia’s Story 💚

Amelia’s journey is a beautiful example of courage, determination, and a willingness to embrace every opportunity that comes her way.

Amelia is not one to shy away from a new challenge—she is always ready to try something new. From horseback riding and dance class to soccer, skiing, baking buddies, and Best Buddies, she jumps in with enthusiasm and heart.

One recent moment perfectly captures who Amelia is. While skiing at Alpine Valley, her instructor encouraged her to try a new technique. She was scared and worried she might fall—but she tried anyway. She did fall, but didn’t let that stop her. She got back up, tried again, and made it even farther. That moment reflects Amelia’s spirit: being afraid doesn’t stop her—she keeps going.

Since attending The Haase House, Amelia’s confidence and independence have grown tremendously. With the support and encouragement of staff and peers, her life skills have truly blossomed. She takes pride in cooking and cleaning, often excited to share everything she has accomplished. The home-like setting is helping prepare her for a future of greater independence.

Amelia’s story also highlights how far she has come. Early on, there were doubts about her ability to communicate—but today, she has far surpassed those expectations. Her growth is a powerful reminder that potential cannot be defined by limitations.

Amelia continues to amaze those around her, and each day brings something new to celebrate. Her courage, resilience, and joyful spirit leave a lasting impression on everyone she meets. 💚

💚 Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month: Andrew’s Story 💚

Andrew’s journey is a powerful example of ability, growth, and independence.

Early on, his family was told he would most likely not walk, talk, or eat independently. Today, Andrew continues to defy those expectations. One of his biggest accomplishments is working with DVR at his second job opportunity—something that once felt uncertain, but is now part of his everyday life.

Independence for Andrew means confidently navigating his daily routine. He uses transportation services on his own to get to The Haase House and to work, showing responsibility, courage, and trust in his abilities. These everyday moments are incredible milestones that reflect how far he has come.

Andrew continues to grow in meaningful ways. Through his church’s ABLE group, he has become a strong advocate for others with special needs—using his voice to support and uplift those around him.

His story also challenges a common misconception: that cerebral palsy defines a person’s abilities or limits their potential. From a young age, Andrew has proven that wrong. While others may have focused on what he couldn’t do, Andrew has always focused on what he can do—approaching life with perseverance, courage, and heart.

Andrew’s personality shines far beyond his disability. He is happy, kind, and enthusiastic—someone who truly marches to the beat of his own drum. He brings joy to others, treats people with warmth, and faces challenges with resilience and positivity.

His journey is a powerful reminder that ability is not defined by limitations—but by determination, growth, and the willingness to keep going. We cannot wait to see the challenges he takes on at The Haase House and we are looking forward to working with him more!💚
