Our Story

When Dr. Teresa Cowan-Christen’s husband Brian retired after 22 years with the USAF, he asked what was next? Through discussion, training, wanting to give back to their military family and purchasing 22 acres, FIGMO Farm LLC was founded and Horses, Humans and Healing was developed. They decided to stay in Kansas due to the amazing people and great cost of living. Plus the farm was a pay back to Teresa from Brian for all the many deployments and many sacrifices made while Brian was in service to our country.

Horses, Humans and Healing is a equine assisted psychotherapy and equine assisted learning program located at FIGMO Farm in Mulvane, KS and Lipstick Ranch in Andover, KS. This is NOT a hippotherapy or medical model program but involves interaction with horses on the ground only, NO RIDING. We provide individual, group, corporate team building and various workshops. Our staff are Eagala (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association,) and Mental Health First Aid USA certified, and consist of a qualified licensed mental health provider (Dr. Teresa Cowan-Christen) and an Equine Specialist (Michelle Sell) for all sessions.

Currently, H3 is the only Eagala military designated program in Kansas. This means that Teresa and Michelle had to go above and beyond to demonstrate that they have the cultural competency to provide services for military members, veterans and their families. Brian serves at the barn manager and grounds keeper at FIGMO Farm. All are active in various veteran service organizations and causes. Together they are committed to making a difference for service members, veterans and their families.
