Yesterday, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday "Fat Tuesday," signifying the end of Mardi Gras, in preparation for the beginning of Lent (which starts today)! Our residents and staff at Maria Court and Villa Maria enjoyed snacks, played games and sported their purple, green and gold colors to celebrate. 💜💚💛

Our residents and staff felt all of the love this Valentine's Day at Villa Maria and Maria Court!

A HUGE shout out to Dillons stores in Mulvane and Derby for the rose donations, they are beautiful! Thank you so much to the St. Michael's Altar Society for the beautiful hand-made cards, to the ladies from the United Methodist Church for the fun and festive hand-made door hangers, to Interim for the live music and sweet treats, and to our Activities departments for all of the fun things that you bring into our resident's lives (including chocolate)!

Meet Chick-A-Roo, and his wonderful owner Linda! Chick-a-Roo is a Silkie rooster. He is quite the sweetheart, and is very calm and gentle for humans of all ages to love on and pet. Silkies are unique in that they have fur-like feathers that differ from regular birds and are very soft to the touch. Their wonderful demeanor and personalities make them great therapy animals and pets alike!

Ms. Linda has worked at Villa Maria for the past five years, and loves when she can bring her animals, like Chick-A-Roo, in to share with our residents, staff and guests!

We are pleased to announce our January Employee of the Month, Ms. Taylor Cuiksa! Taylor has been employed with us for 3 years and 9 months. She originally started as a school volunteer and has been here ever since, as a proud part of our dietary department!

Taylor truly loves our residents and enjoys serving them with a smile every day. She is always on time, dependable, and genuinely enjoys spending time with residents even after her shift ends.

Taylor, thank you for your dedication, compassion, and all that you do. We truly appreciate you!

The friendly groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted we will see 6 more weeks of winter, drats!

On the sunny side, some fun facts about groundhogs, are that they are also called woodchucks, whistle-pigs, and land beavers! They have strong incisors that grow continuously, requiring them to gnaw on things like tree bark to keep them short. Despite being a little on the bigger side, groundhogs are surprisingly good at climbing trees and swimming! Looks like it's back to the burrow for Punxsutawney and his groundhog friends for another long nap through the end of winter!

Villa Maria, Inc., Mulvane, Kansas, sponsored by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, United States Province, exists to imitate the compassionate Jesus by creating a home for aging men and women where they feel secure, loved, and respected.

The sponsors, directors, and staff are committed to a ministry that provides spiritual, physical, and psycho-social needs in a Christian, loving atmosphere; enabling residents to live their lives to the fullest while preparing themselves for a new dimension—life after death; maintaining a warm and friendly, clean and orderly, safe and comfortable environment; building a community with strong relationships that promotes family-centered spirit.

Villa Maria and Maria Court are not-for-profit licensed senior care centers located in Mulvane, Kansas, just 10 miles from Wichita, Kansas. Villa Maria offers quality skilled nursing care to residents. Maria Court is an assisted living center for seniors who want help with a few daily activities, but value their independence and privacy.
