Bloom and Be provides assessment and intervention in the areas of speech-language therapy, reading disorders, and post-infant feeding.

Bloom is owned by a speech-language pathologist and homeschooling mom in Muncie, IN. We provide evaluations, therapy, caregiver training, IFSP/ISP/IEP paperwork review and advocacy, and other needed services for individuals with a variety of communication disorders, reading disorders, feeding disorders, etc. We provide therapy in both office and teletherapy settings but can occasionally accommodate other meeting areas when needs arise. Occasionally we offer homeschool classes! In the past, these classes have included American Sign Language and Executive Functioning. Therapy goals are customized to your family's needs. Our goal is to equip families to foster a communication supportive and independent environment. YOU are your child's most important model so we want to empower you to help your loved ones communicate and participate in their world in the most functional way possible.

Most extra coolest gift #5: BOOKS!

Books are legitimately one of the best gifts you can give a child, especially if you take the time to read WITH them! Colors, shapes, sounds, literacy, joint attention, etc. What can you NOT do with books!?

Encourage friends and family to write notes in books for your kids that they can keep and cherish. 💛

Super cool toy #4 (as chosen by our awesome grad student this semester!): cuttable food!

Miss Jenna loves these toys because you can work on colors, food names, verbs, and imaginary play! Your kids learn a lot from watching you and we wouldn’t be surprised if they take to these pretty quickly. 🙂 Maybe soon after they can help you in the kitchen!

Just wanted to take a temporary pause from posting about toys to say something important.

We know that times are really hard for a lot of people right now. If any of our clients are struggling and there is anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to reach out to your therapist and we will do our best to help your family. Bloom is about families!

Awesome toy #3 - the car ramp!

This is a favorite in the clinic! Ours even has little garages for each car and a tiny gas pump. :)

We love these kinds of toys because they are great for repetitive play! Doing the same thing over and over is something kids really enjoy AND you can use it as a tool to create a routine. Kids respond well when hearing something over and over. It can also be great for practicing cause and effect! Every time the car rolls down say "Wee!!" with a lot of enthusiasm!

Next super cool toy to help with language:

#2 magnetic dolls!

With this toy you can work on clothing, body parts, colors, imaginary play, etc! These are compact, easy to travel with, and so fun!

Let's highlight some awesome gifts we can give our kiddos that can help grow their speech and language skills!

#1 A barn toy with animals!

- toys that allow for free play are often easier to use for elicitation of language
- free play is also a great way to encourage imagination
- this toy can be used for: animal names, animal noises, following directions, joint play, prepositions, etc.

We are going to start a series on play and expanding language through toys! We will post some of our favorite activities and toys BUT....

Guess what though??

YOU are your child's favorite toy

AND

Toys don't have to be expensive and labeled as educational to be useful for modeling and growing speech and language!

To prove this, let's have a therapy session with a trash can:
- environmental noises (bang, boom)
- prepositions (lid on, put in, on top)
- adjectives (full, empty, silver, big, tall)
- following directions (put the lid on the trash can, take it off, put this inside)
- directing/requesting (Go! - as you throw something in - , More!, Stop!)

Hello! I am a speech-language pathologist and homeschooling mom in Muncie, IN.
