Before every client, these stones and I hold a small ceremony. You see, these stones are not your typical ceramic massage stones....These are petrified volcanic lava rock and story has it, they have been on this earth long before us! Giving their "age", one might consider them the age of grandfather/grandmother 🄰. The stones are knowledge carriers, the medicine carriers and this is what I count on for guidance and discovery for each individual's need. I am grateful for their presence in my career. And I am grateful for all of you!

It’s nearly 2026… and people are still saying ā€œslipped disc.ā€
There are 75 days left until 2026, and somehow this myth still won’t die. Discs don’t slip. They never have, and they never will.

The discs sit firmly attached between the vertebrae — they’re part of the spine’s structure, not little hockey pucks floating around waiting to ā€œslip out.ā€ Each disc is anchored by tough outer fibres (the annulus fibrosus) that fuse directly to the vertebral bodies above and below.

What actually happens is that the soft inner material (the nucleus pulposus) can bulge or herniate through weakened fibres and sometimes press on a nearby nerve. That can cause pain, but the disc itself hasn’t ā€œslipped.ā€ It’s still right where it belongs.

And for the inevitable nitpickers — yes, I already know what you’re about to type: ā€œWhat about spondylolisthesis then?ā€
That’s a completely different condition. Spondylolisthesis is when one vertebra moves slightly forward or backward relative to the one below it — not the disc. The disc isn’t slipping; the bone is shifting position due to a defect or fracture in the vertebral arch.

So please, as we head into another year, let’s leave ā€œslipped discā€ in the past where it belongs. The correct term is disc bulge or herniation, not ā€œslip.ā€

If you know me, you know this is my standard conversation with each client because we ALL do it! If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, reach out. There's no reason for you to be in pain.

TRUTH: Nobody has "perfect" posture.

In fact, it may not even be possible.

"WHY?!?!?"

We live in a RIGHT-HANDED DOMINANT WORLD. 90 percent of all humans on the earth are right-handed. This means are products and tools that we use are designed by right-handed people for right-handed people.

This means that will repeat all of the same patterns over and over again with just one side. Unfortunately, this can lead to muscle imbalances and ultimately PAIN.

Fortunately, our posture can be a tattle-tell.

If you have a tendency to bear weight more on the right leg, don't be surprised if you notice:

- your left arch is a little flatter
- your right hip is a little higher
- your right shoulder is a little lower
- your neck bends & rotates left

****THE REVERSE IS TRUE IF YOU LEAN ON YOUR LEFT MORE.****

Obviously, this doesn't help you move and could easily lead to pain in places you can't explain.

FORTUNATELY, posture is made and not given. Once we understand our deviations we can use exercise to reverse muscle imbalances and restore alignment.

Massage therapists don't need to fake medical expertise.
We’re not here to diagnose. or impress anyone with jargon.
But... let’s not pretend we don’t know what we’re doing.

We spend more hands-on time with clients
than almost anyone on their healthcare team.

We palpate their pain, swelling, structure, and stress in real time.

So. I say, our legitimacy isn't from medical mimicry,
but rather, embodied clarity!

You know the difference between constriction of fascia and congestion of edema.
how it FEELS under your fingertips, and how it responds to your hands.
That matters.

That's what gives us the authority to set an example.

Not our ability to blend in with other health care expectations.
Our ability to sense and perceive.

Our awareness.
