This month is National Kidney Month and here at Passionate Care Inc. we want to bring awareness to kidney health and encourage people to keep their own kidneys safe and healthy!

Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD) affects almost 40 million American adults. In 2016, three-quarters of a million people in the U.S. required dialysis or a kidney transplant. Dialysis and kidney transplants, the only treatment options for severe kidney failure, are difficult, expensive, and not always available. Patients seeking new organs may not always get them in time to survive; in the U.S., twelve people die each day waiting for a kidney.

Dialysis and kidney transplants, the only treatment options for severe kidney failure, are difficult, expensive, and not always available.

To prevent kidney disease, the National Kidney Foundation recommends taking proactive steps to keep your kidneys healthy and prevent the onset of CKD. You can protect your kidneys by managing high blood pressure, making healthy food and drink choices, and reducing stress.

Talk to your physician to ensure that you are having a healthy, balanced lifestyle and diet for great kidney health!

Each day, our dedicated staff work with persons with disabilities - it requires a lot of care and effort but we know that it's necessary to promote the well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development.

National Handwashing Awareness Week!

You've probably heard how important it is to wash your hands during the COVID-19 pandemic...and it's true! Personal hygiene begins and ends with our hands. Germs don't care who you are or what time of day it is!

Clean hands prevent sickness. So it’s especially important to learn the basics about hand hygiene so that you, too, can become a champion hand washer! Here are the basics:

-Wash with soap and clean water for at least 20 seconds
-Be sure to get a good lather going and clean the back of the hands, between the fingers and under the nails
-Dry them using a clean towel

There is a lot of science behind these recommendations, so be sure to follow them each time you wash your hands.

Last week, we celebrated National Nurse's Practitioner Week!

What does a nurse's practitioner do, would you say? They provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests and prescribe medication for children and adults. A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations.

Without our nurses and nurses practitioners, we at Passionate Care would not be able to give the quality care possible to each and every patient. With thanksgiving around the corner - and National Nurses' Practitioner Week behind us - we want to give a big shout out to all those who are so dedicated to their profession. Thank you!

Today is World Diabetes Day!

Diabetes is a tough, tough disease, but thankfully, with the care of your loved ones and specialized health professionals, you can get it right in order. Whether you have Type 2 diabetes (largely preventable and treatable non-communicable disease) or Type 1 (not preventable but can be managed with insulin injections), there are some steps you should take to get healthier:

1. Lose extra weight - losing weight reduces the risk of diabetes
2. Be more physically active
3. Eat healthy plant foods - they provide vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates in your diet
4. Eat healthy fats
5. Skip fad diets and make healthier choices

You know when you visit the doctor, and you're let into the room, and a kind man or woman takes your blood pressure, preps the room, and gets it ready for the doctor to come in?

That's a physician's assistant, and it's who we are celebrating this week! We want to recognize the physician assistant profession and all the contributions they make to the medical community.

Don’t be fooled by the name. Though the word “assistant” may be in the title, a physician assistant is qualified to treat patients in many of the same ways as a medical doctor and PAs are integral parts of the healthcare system, especially in light of recent health care reform.

At Passionate Care, we understand how difficult it is to give the quality of care that each person deserves every day. And we know that without physician's assistants - their care coordination, practices and the institutions they work for - then we wouldn't be getting the care we do in this country.

October marks National Physical Therapy Month!

At Passionate Care, we celebrate the profession and all the ways physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and PT and PTA students help improve lives across the country.

This year, we're focusing on the importance of physical activity and the role of physical therapists in helping people get moving and getting over their ailments!

The last thing that we need is ever more health care costs in our lives, and yet, inadequate physical activity results in an added $117 billion in health care costs in the US each year! As we struggle to address a global pandemic, it’s more important than ever to encourage movement to help people manage pain and other chronic conditions, recover from injuries, and reduce the risk of future injury and chronic disease.

Last week marked the celebration of the World Mental Health Day, which takes place each year in October. It's a subject that many of us are well aware of, whether we suffer from mental health issues from anxiety to depression, or whether our loved ones do. After the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health has taken a decline in our country for the worse.

Luckily, there is hope, and this week we want to raise raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilize efforts in support of mental health. Whether you struggle with mental health, or whether your organization is helping to fight the stigma surrounding mental health, take this week to understand what can be done. Here are some simple tips!

-Try to stay positive and have an optimistic outlook - find that balance between negative and positive emotions
-Take a break from negative information - social media, the news, gossip
-Take care of your physical health, since your physical and mental health are connected
-Get enough sleep
-Healthy eating
-Meditation techniques
-Develop a sense of purpose in your life

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. It's one of those terrible illnesses that seem to affect many of our loved ones, but thankfully, there are some steps we can take to be ahead of this illness.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer (excluding skin cancer) among men in the United States. The best way to get ahead is to get tested and screened as early as possible.

For women, gynecologic cancer is common and there are about the five main gynecologic cancers (cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar). Talk to your doctors and nurses to find the signs, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies associated with gynecologic cancers.
