I apologize for the wait. I know that we were suppose to open back up on August 1, but the moving process and the time it took time to organize and restock took longer than expected.

HUNGRY OR THIRSTY?

Did you know that the same part of your brain that’s responsible for interpreting hunger is also responsible for interpreting thirst as well? 🧐

When true hunger strikes, many people are guilty of opening the fridge or pantry and immediately looking for ready-to-eat or pre-packaged foods for a quick fix. The next time you get a stomach pain, pause and ask yourself if you’re really hungry or could you just be thirsty?

When feeling hungry, first try drinking a glass of water and then check in with yourself to see how you are feeling before you start to eat.

Learn how to understand your body’s signals. A good rule of thumb to hydrate is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day.

For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, you should drink at least 60 ounces of water a day. This is very important as you go through your health journey!

MEAL PREPPING 101

When I first started my health journey, meal prepping was the best way for me to stay on track with my eating.

Most people underestimate the amount of food they eat and overestimate the amount of liquid they drink every day. It’s important to consume the right amount and balance of nutrients to support your body’s needs, along with enough hydration, which is what meal planning can help you do!

Here are a few tips from others who completed the 30 Days to Healthy Living on how they successfully plan their meals:

1) I plan at least five meals for the week and make a grocery list that includes things I need for those meals. It helps me shop faster and also know what we will be having to eat.

2) I like to prepare raw vegetables ahead of time and put into storage containers in the fridge. It makes meal preparation easier if I’m in a hurry.

3) I use an app to keep track of my favorite recipes online and to find inspiration.

People don’t plan to fail, they just fail to plan. Make sure you are planing your meals each week for success!

Watermelon season is finally here!!

I absolutely love watermelon and can eat them almost everyday during watermelon season. However, I always have trouble finding the best tasting watermelon. I used these tips to find me a seeded watermelon and it was banging!!

Here is some great tips to picking a sweet and juicy watermelon.

1. Find the yellow spot.
2. The heavier the watermelon the juicier it is.
3. Look for scars.

How does exercise help your lymphatic system?

There are many systems in your body that rely on exercise to do it’s job effectively, especially the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the septic tank of your body. It’s where toxin from the body goes to be neutralized before it’s taken to the kidneys to be flushed out via urination. This plays a crucial part of your immune system and it has a central role to play in cancer prevention.

It’s is the only system in your body that does not have it’s own natural pump like your heart that pumps blood to all your vital organs.

The lymphatic system solely depends on the contraction of your muscles that pumps the fluid around your body. Exercise can help the lymphatic system flow more effectively and potentially help prevent infections and other diseases.

However, exercising doesn’t have to be overly strenuous. It’s just a matter of getting your heart rate up for 30 minutes at a time. Even 15 minutes of increased heart rate can be extremely beneficial! It burns calories and it improves cardiovascular health, increases energy levels, improves your level of happiness, and for some it can be a great stress reducer.
