Dear MMC Families,
We know many of you are upset and worried about the news that UHC TennCare will not be accepted at MMC starting January 1, 2026. We understand how stressful this is, especially when it affects the doctor your child knows and trusts. We are very sorry for how hard this feels.
MMC has asked UHC TennCare to extend our contract so families could stay covered through the state’s Open Enrollment period in May 2026. This would have given families more time and helped avoid sudden changes in care. Unfortunately, UHC TennCare will not agree to this extension, so the contract will end as planned on December 31, 2025.
If you want your child to keep seeing their MMC Pediatrician, or if you would like to continue seeing your current provider, you can ask TennCare for a change in insurance companies. Please know these requests are not guaranteed. TennCare decides each request, and most changes are only approved during Open Enrollment.
However, if a change is denied, you have the right to file an appeal.
If you have questions, we are here to help however we can.
The next Open Enrollment period for Middle Tennessee is May 2026, when you can choose a plan that includes MMC (BlueCare or Wellpoint).
Our goal is for you and your child to have the best care possible, close to home. We are continuing to speak up for our patients and push for better options with TennCare and with our state legislators.
