Our journey began in 1975 as the Rutherford County Adult Activity Center, founded by families who wanted more opportunities, support, and community for their loved ones. What started as a small day program quickly became something much bigger - a place built on inclusion, purpose, and possibility.

By the 1980s, the program had grown and evolved, shifting its focus from recreation to developmental and life skills, helping people build independence, confidence, and real-world abilities that would shape their futures.

Fifty years later, we’re proud to look back at where we started and how far we’ve come, and even more excited about where we’re going.

We’re excited to kick off a new series highlighting the services we offer at Journeys In Community Living and what they mean for the individuals we support.

Our Residential services provide supports that enable participants to acquire, retain, or improve the skills necessary to live in a home of their own. Participants are supported in learning everyday life skills such as cooking, housekeeping, grocery shopping, and money management.

Homes are owned or leased by the residents and are fully integrated into the community, encouraging independence, confidence, and meaningful community connections.
