As we continue this series, we’re highlighting our Facility Based Services at Journeys In Community Living and how they support independence and everyday life.

This program provides services and supports that occur in our facility-based setting. Qualified staff assist individuals in acquiring, retaining, and improving skills related to self-care, sensory/motor development, socialization, daily living, and communication. These skills allow individuals to pursue and achieve employment and/or community participation goals.

As we celebrate 50 years of Journeys In Community Living, we’re looking back at some of the milestones that helped shape who we are today.

In 1986, our first job training program opened doors by teaching skills that led to real employment opportunities. Just two years later, in 1988, a new location on Haley Road allowed us to expand our programs and support even more people in our community.

Devin is a participant in the MAPs program who wants to gain the skills and confidence to stay at home independently.

By training with the VR headset through Enabling Technology, Devin practiced evacuating a building and learned how to properly operate a fire extinguisher, and identified his evacuation route. As a result, Devin now feels much more confident and prepared to stay at home alone.

Meet Agency Case Manager, Kelly Brunner!

Kelly began her role as Agency Case Manager at Journeys in 2023. She received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2010.

Kelly feels an important aspect of her job is working with those she supports to set goals that foster independence and help them make informed decisions.
