Today is Trans Day of Remembrance, a day to hold space in our hearts for every trans life lost. A reminder that while we mourn, the violence is real and ongoing.
These were people who laughed, cried, loved, danced, dreamed.
People who were trying to exist in a world that kept trying to erase them.
People who deserved birthdays they’ll never have, hugs they’ll never feel again, futures that were stolen too soon.
Most of the lives we lost this year were young. Many were women of color. Many were just trying to survive. Some were activists, fighting for their community until the very end. Some were kids. Some were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. All of them deserved safety. All of them deserved life.
Today isn’t just about mourning, it’s about remembering their humanity.
It’s about saying, “You mattered. your life mattered. your love, your identity, your existence mattered.”
It’s a reminder for the rest of us to protect and uplift trans voices while they’re still here. To show up. To speak up. To make sure this world becomes safer for them , not someday, but now.
Lighting a candle tonight for every life we lost this year.
May their memory be a blessing, and may their legacy push us toward something better. 🕯️🏳️⚧️
