Today we attended MSU's Staff Recognition of Service and reception.
Missy Stokes, Janeen Winters and Shanna Burgess were all recognized for their 25 years of service at Murray State! Thank you for your continued leadership and dedication!

As we wrap up our fall semester Free Children's Dental Clinic I want to give a shout out to all that take part in this service to our kids. Thanks to University of Louisville School of Dentistry and your community outreach 4th years. Thanks to Dr. David Cassity for supervising our clinic, Allison Hopkins and Shania McKinney and the West Kentucky Community & Technical College Dental assisting students, my staff and last but not least our patients. Thank you for letting us serve you and helping you have a beautiful smile!

If you want to know what true AHEC advocacy is meet Gia Loaiza. Gia is a dental assisting student at West Kentucky Community & Technical College. She was one of our patients a few years ago as a child. She is now working at our Free Children's Dental Clinic that we host once a month. She also serves as a translator for our Hispanic families. This is what being an advocate is, giving back to once what served you! Thanks Gia AHEC loves you!

This week, Purchase AHEC's Center Director, Missy Stokes, on behalf of the National AHEC Organization, presented Mike Muscarella with the NAO Alumni/Advocate of the Year Award.

"It was an honor to present this award. Mike is instrumental in the success of Kentucky AHEC. He has served on the Purchase AHEC Advisory Board for over 30 years, with the last 27 years as Board Chair. He also serves as Chair of the statewide KY AHEC Board. There is no one else I can think of that is more deserving of this award than Mike. Congratulations!" - Missy Stokes

Last week, Purchase AHEC hosted several MSU School of Nursing & Health Professions students for our annual poverty simulation. This simulation allows for students to experience real-life situations that communities living in poverty struggle with every day. Our hope is that students will have a better understanding and be more equipped to serve their patients with their healthcare needs.
