Today, Halloween is celebrated in many countries. Where did it come from?

The ancient Celts celebrated Samhain, which was common in Ireland, Scotland, and parts of Wales. Samhain was celebrated on the night between October 31st and November 1st and symbolized the transition from the light season to the dark season, the beginning of winter, and a new annual cycle.

• The ancient Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became thin, allowing spirits to enter the human world.
• People lit bonfires and wore masks to ward off evil spirits.
• People went from house to house collecting gifts for the gods and spirits—what has since become known as "trick-or-treat."

Later, the Christian church moved All Saints' Day to November 1st, and the evening before became known as All Hallows' Eve—hence the name Halloween.

The holiday spread around the world with Irish immigrants, especially to the United States, where it took on its modern form.

If you live where Halloween is celebrated, I recommend stocking up on candy. 🍪🍫🍩
