The Healing Place is closed today, Monday, January 18th, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Dr. King believed that if people could unite, all could live in a place of social equality and belonging. He believed in peace, social justice, and freedom from prejudice.

Today we reflect on Dr. King’s message, his mission, and all that he achieved.

Please allow time for THP staff to return any missed calls and emails as we return to office on Tuesday, January 19th.

✨Help us create a Ceiling of Healing✨

THP is hosting another Ceiling of Healing night on January 22nd! We are giving children and families a new way to honor their loved ones by painting a ceiling tile in our facility, creating a beautiful tribute that surrounds our space with love, remembrance, and healing.

Any child or family who has experienced the loss of a loved one can come to our facility and paint a ceiling tile in memory of their special person. This tile will be showcased at The Healing Place for all to see.

We need YOUR HELP to ensure that any children and families who want to create a tribute to their loved one in the new year can participate. We ask you to consider sponsoring a child or family to create a tile for our January Ceiling of Healing night.

1 full ceiling tile: $50
1/2 ceiling tile: $25

Ceiling of Healing Fund: any person, business, organization, or group can donate to our Ceiling of Healing Fund to allow children and families the chance to paint a ceiling tile in honor of their special person.

🚨WE NEED YOUR HELP🚨

The Healing Place needs help with our bi-weekly grief support groups!

Did you know that The Healing Place provides a free meal to all children and families who attend our bi-weekly grief support groups? This is a crucial part of our services as it frees one worry from grieving families minds and allows them to attend our grief support groups without worrying about missing dinner or the cost of eating out. We are passionate about this service but we need your help to continue providing it.

The Healing Place accepts sponsors for each group night! By becoming a sponsor you, your business, organization, church group, etc. provides food for grieving children and families on a group night. There are two ways to become a sponsor:

1️⃣ Call 256-383-7133 or email officemanager@thehealingplaceinfo.org and let us know that you or your organization wants to provide food for our families! You may do this by directly purchasing a meal (ex- Chick-Fil-A nugget platters, BBQ trays, sandwich trays, catering, etc.) and bringing it to one of our scheduled group nights OR by donating to our group night fund so that we can purchase a meal.

✨Activity Share✨

When life feels uncertain and unpredictable, having routines throughout the day can help lessen anxiety and provide familiar structure. Especially important are morning and evening routines that can bookend the day.

Create your own bookends by thinking about which routines are most helpful for you. Write the most helpful morning routine on the first book and the most helpful nighttime routine on the last book. Then, fill in the rest of the books with other routines you do throughout the day. When you’re finished, share your helpful routines with your family!

💙Adult Grief Support Group💙

THP is offering an Adult Grief Support Group Monday, January 12th, at 12pm.

This group is open to ANY adult who has or is experiencing grief. This group is in addition to our bi-weekly all ages support group. Any adults are welcome to join us regardless of type of loss or previous THP involvement. We hope to continue offering this group monthly to meet the need of adults experiencing grief in our community.

RSVP is not required to participate in this group but is encouraged. To RSVP you may call our office at 256-383-7133, email officemanager@thehealingplaceinfo.org, or message us directly.

✨Activity REShare✨

The Healing Place spends lots of time developing programming and curriculum that supports our children and families.

Last year a January favorite was “New Year, New Plate”. This activity invited children to think about “what was on their plate” for 2024 while imagining what “will be on their plate” for 2025. We encourage all participants to consider the good, the bad, and the potential. This has proven to be a great way for children to share thoughts on their previous year, how grief impacted certain aspects of their year, and what they hope will change or happen in 2025. We hope to share updates of this activity in 2026!

New Year, Same Grief

Grief in the new year brings with it a multitude of feelings. At THP, we recognize that those emotions almost give us whiplash. We encourage you to remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. There is no right or wrong way to bring your grief into the new year.

💙 At 6pm we will separate into our four age groups: littles, middles, teens, and adults.
