This Valentine’s Day, show your heart AND your hearing some love.

Your heart and ears are more connected than you think. The tiny sensory cells in your inner ear depend on strong blood flow to function properly, so when heart health declines, hearing can suffer too.

Your heart health and hearing health are more connected than you might think!

Good blood flow is essential for the tiny sensory cells in your inner ear to work properly. 🩸 When your heart and blood vessels aren’t pumping well, these cells can get damaged, leading to hearing loss. That’s why conditions like high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease can increase your risk of hearing problems. Taking care of your heart means taking care of your ears too! 👂

If you’ve noticed any changes in your hearing or want to make sure your ears are in tip-top shape, send me a message or call to schedule a hearing exam.

Can I use my FSA or HSA card here?”

I get asked this all the time.

A patient came in recently and said, “I’m guessing this won’t work for hearing stuff… right?”

I totally get it. Benefits can be SO confusing.

Here’s the simple answer: YES. Many patients can use FSA/HSA funds for things like hearing aids and copays… and often hearing protection too (always check your plan to confirm.)

Want help figuring out what applies to you? Send us a message or call the office! 🙌

💊 Did you know that over 200 medications list hearing loss or tinnitus as a possible side effect? This includes some prescriptions and even common over-the-counter meds like aspirin or acetaminophen.
But don’t panic, taking them doesn’t mean you will develop hearing issues.
If you do notice ringing or changes in hearing after starting a new medication, don’t stop taking it; talk to your prescribing doctor first. 👂🩺
We’re here to help you monitor your hearing health and work with your care team if anything changes.

Hearing ringing, buzzing, humming, or rushing sounds in your ears? 👂 You’re not imagining it, and you’re definitely not alone. About 10% of U.S. adults (over 25 million people) experience tinnitus, and millions find it disruptive to daily life.

Tinnitus is commonly linked to hearing loss, but stress, anxiety, noise exposure, and head injuries can also play a role.

If the sounds in your ears are bothering you, we’re here to help you understand what’s going on. 💙

🧣 It’s cold out HEAR! ❄️

Winter weather is here, and while you’re bundling up, don’t forget to show your hearing aids a little extra love!

Cold temps, condensation, and hat friction can all cause issues if you’re not careful. Here are a few quick tips to keep your devices happy and working their best:

👂 Watch out for moisture: When you come inside from the cold, let your hearing aids dry completely. A dehumidifier or drying kit works wonders!

🧢 Be mindful with hats: Tight beanies or ear-covering hats can knock your hearing aids loose, create feedback, or add extra pressure. Choose a soft, breathable hat that gives your ears a bit of space.

🌡️ Avoid leaving hearing aids in the car: Extreme cold can drain batteries faster (and no one wants a “silent night” because of that).

Because your hearing health matters long after the fitting, and we want you to hear every cozy, wintery moment this season. ❄️

It’s always exciting fitting someone with amplification for the first time in front of a loved one. When they can hear their spouse speaking at a normal volume. A whole new world of sound is back.

One of the amazing gifts of hearing is the ability to tell different pitches (aka frequencies 🤓) apart…something we often take for granted! 👂✨

Think about it:

🔔 The high-pitched jingle of sleigh bells vs. the deep “Ho Ho Ho” of Santa’s laugh
⛄️ The delicate chime of a snow globe vs footsteps stomping through fresh snow
🎄Tiny ornaments clinking as you hang them on the tree vs the rumble of a holiday train set around the tree

🧠 Our brains help us distinguish all these sounds, letting us fully enjoy every festive moment.
If you’ve noticed it’s harder to pick out these details (or conversations get “blurry” in noisy rooms), consider scheduling a hearing check before the end of the year!

Myth: Louder is better.
Fact: Clarity is key.

It’s a common misconception that people with hearing loss just need others to “speak up.” But here’s the truth 👇

👂Hearing loss doesn’t just make sounds quieter…it makes speech distorted and muffled. That means even if someone shouts, the words may still sound unclear or jumbled.

So instead of raising your voice, try:
💬 Facing the person directly
👄 Speaking clearly (not exaggerated)
📺 Reducing background noise when possible

At Shoreline Hearing, we hope to equip you with tools to thrive this holiday season. And if you or someone you love feels like voices sound mumbly, unclear, or that everyone’s talking too fast, it might be time for a hearing check. Because communication isn’t about volume, it’s about understanding.
