What Is Reiki Therapy?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that focuses on comfort, relaxation, and emotional well-being. During a Reiki session, our trained practitioner lightly places their hands on or just above the patient’s body to help promote a sense of calm and peace. This helps Hospice patients relieve anxiety, improves mood, and helps with sleep.
But because our complementary therapies are not covered by traditional funding sources such as medicare/medicaid and private insurance, the Harbor Hospice Foundation is responsible for funding the program. That is why we are asking the community to help us in our mission to provide these therapies to anyone in our care who needs it. To make a donation or learn more about our reiki therapy program, visit our website www.harborhospicemi.org

What is Massage Therapy?
Our certified Massage Therapists use gentle therapeutic massage to relieve tension, reduce pain, improve mobility, and boost a patient's mood. By promoting relaxation and alleviating physical discomfort, massage therapy often leads to better sleep, improved mental health, and an overall enhanced quality of life.
But to provide this service to our patients free of charge, we need funds to fill the gap. That is why we are working to raise money and support massage therapy and our overall Circle of Care. To make a donation or learn more about our massage therapy program, visit our website www.harborhospicemi.org

What is Music Therapy?
Our music therapists personalize complimentary experiences around music to connect with patients in our care, facilitate their well-being, and bring back good memories. This could include singing, playing, writing or just listening to music. These activities can help inspire a patient to think about relationships and events in their life. Singing with others can create a feeling of togetherness and help relieve anxiety and the fear of being alone.
But to make it an impactful experience for each patient, our music therapist needs instruments and other equipment to assist with each session. That is why we are working to raise money to support music therapy and our Circle of Care. To make a donation or learn more about our music therapy program, visit our website www.harborhospicemi.org

What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a gentle, creative way for hospice patients to express themselves. Our patients and our art therapist come together to make art in many forms, from drawing, painting, sculpting, and more. Art therapy provides an outlet for patients to express how they are feeling, without words. It also allows them to create pieces of art to leave behind for loved ones.
But just like any art class, our therapist continuously needs new supplies to adjust to the needs of patients. That is why we are working to raise money to support art therapy and our Circle of Care. To make a donation or learn more about our art therapy program, visit our website www.harborhospicemi.org

Our compassionate and expert care wherever it’s needed
For almost four decades, Harbor Hospice has provided skilled, compassionate end-of-life care by addressing the medical, emotional, and spiritual needs of terminally ill patients and their families regardless of their ability to pay for it.
Most hospice patients in our five-county West Michigan region chose to remain at home while in our care, but when that is not their choice or not the best option, we serve them where ever they are including in nursing homes and at our Leila and Cyrus Po**en Hospice Residence in Muskegon.
Harbor Palliative Care professionals provide specialized medical support to patients who are not ready for hospice but are dealing with challenging, life-limiting symptoms of their condition -- or side effects of their treatments -- such as nausea, breathing difficulties, and especially pain. We partner with each patient’s doctor to determine how best to bring comfort to the patient so they can resume activities they love like having dinner with friends and spending time with grandchildren.
Each day at our Bob and Merle Scolnik Healing Center in Muskegon, grief counselors offer support groups and one-on-one time for family members, partners, friends, and care givers learning how to cope with heartache and loss. Because we believe so strongly in the power of grief support, our services are free of charge and available to everyone.
Harbor Hospice is certified by Medicare and Medicaid and our services for which there is a fee are covered by most health insurance plans.
