I wanted to take a moment to talk directly to all of you and explain my absence in person over these last 5 years. Many of you already know that BigPapa Epperson and I have been traveling back and forth to Baylor in Houston and OU Children’s Hospital in OKC for the past 4 years. What most people don’t realize is just how long my medical journey has been.
I was born with congenital spina bifida, overlapping lipomyelomeningocele, and a two-point tethered spinal cord—conditions that, for most of my life, went largely untreated. Because of this, I now face a very high-risk surgery that simply can’t be avoided. My 4 neurosurgeons, my plastic surgeon, my neurologist, and Dr. Kirk with Cherokee Nation Health Services have all agreed that this surgery—one that should have been done when I was a baby—is now critical for me to move forward at 53. I have organs tangled and wrapped in and through this medical nightmare, and it will take a full team of surgeons working for 4–8 hours on that table to try to put me back together.
Through all of this, your love has been one of my greatest sources of strength. Reading the “LOVE NOTES” you leave in the BossLady LoveBox truly brightens my days. And to the thousands of you who message or text me—I LOVE YOU ALL. Even when I can't respond to every single one, please know that I see you, I feel your support, and I carry your words with me.
