POWDERED LAUNDRY DETERGENT 🧺✨
I’ve been on a mission to create a low-tox home 🏡, and that meant saying goodbye to store-bought cleaning and personal care products. So many brands claim to be “organic” or “all-natural,” but once you actually read the labels… it’s a different story. And don’t even get me started on “fragrance”—companies aren’t required to disclose what’s in it, and that’s often where some of the most concerning ingredients hide.
I used to LOVE the smell of Gain detergent… now it gives me a headache and makes me feel nauseous 🤢 Funny how your body starts to notice things differently once you make a switch.
This simple powdered detergent recipe actually takes me back—when I was younger, I helped my mom with laundry and we always used powder. There’s something nostalgic about it, but even better knowing exactly what’s in it.
This blend is made with ingredients that naturally and effectively tackle sweat, food, odors, and stains—without the unnecessary extras. Plus, it’s eco-friendly and incredibly cost-effective 🙌
👉 Borax: a natural mineral that whitens, removes residue, and helps fight fungi & bacteria
👉 Washing Soda: softens water, boosts cleaning power, and helps lift stains
👉 Baking Soda: gently enhances cleaning without being harsh on fabrics
🧴 RECIPE:
Combine equal parts Borax, washing soda, and baking soda (I did 1 gallon of each). Add 30ml of your favorite essential oil, mix thoroughly, and store in a container of your choice. Use ¼–½ cup per load.
💰 Cost: about $0.02–$0.04 per load!
I ended up splitting my batch in half to make mixing easier—using 10 cups of each ingredient with a 15ml bottle of essential oils (I used a blend of Midnight Forest & Lemon 🍋🌲). Then I repeated with the remaining ingredients.
Altogether, I made about 3 gallons of powdered detergent 😳—which should last me 6 months or more!
Simple, affordable, and feels so much better knowing exactly what I’m using in my home 💚
