Chris's Chiropractic Story
If you’d have asked me what I knew about Chiropractic before I began at Sea One I would have told you that it was for your bones. I thought of Chiropractors as bone doctors. Much more than that I couldn’t say. The only experience I’d had with it was waiting in the waiting room of an office while my mother got adjusted as a teenager and, more recently, watching as my wife went through the healing process of a sciatica flare up once every year or two knowing only that she’d go to the Chiropractor and it would get better. I never actually went in the Doctor’s room myself. So imagine my surprise when I lie on the table for the first time and received an adjustment.
I am not a “back pain” person. I feel lucky to be able to say that I have never had sciatica issues. Especially after seeing my wife go through bouts of it over the last ten years, I wish that pain upon no person. But like everyone else I’ve had an ache or pain throughout my life. I’ve lived a couple of days wondering which slight twist was going to be the one that stabbed a knife of pain into my back or neck over the years. Those times have simply been few a far between. So what did I get out of my first adjustment? The biggest surprise I had never even imagined nor been told was possible. I woke up the next day able to breath freely! For the first time in over 15 years, in the middle of allergy season, I woke up from a night’s sleep without congested sinuses. I didn’t have that feeling of a bubble in my nose and throat. I didn’t have to blow my nose every 10 or 15 minutes for the first 2 hours of the day after standing up as it all slowly started to drain after having built up overnight while lying down. It was the strangest thing to experience. 15+ years of life had taught me that 2-3 months out of the year in Spring and Fall I was going to need Benadryl and my nasal sprays or Claritin every day and night for weeks at a time. Yet, after my first adjustment, and in the middle of one of my “normal” post nasal drip stints, I was fine.
I didn’t take anything for my allergies that next day. I stayed clear and able to breath deep all day. I kept everything nearby just in case I felt that familiar congestion returning but I didn’t end up using anything. I stayed clear for a full week, and when I saw Dr. Alan again I asked him about it. He told me I wasn’t the first to find such relief and that it was a common thing in chiropractic. It blew my mind! Why hadn’t anyone ever told me about this before? I had suffered since I was in high school and was resigned to my fate of such suffering for the rest of life, switching from one allergy med to the next as I slowly accumulated resistances to each medicine in turn until they no longer worked to relieve my symptoms. But now I know better and I spread the word to any who will listen. Chiropractic is not just for sciatica flare ups or when you throw your back out! It can help with even the most unexpected of things, even the ones you think are your new normal. Don’t “learn to live with it”, take back your health and enjoy your life.
Thanks for reading this far! I look forward to seeing you at the office.
