The Hardeeville Fire Department and IAFF Local 5198 - Hardeeville Professional Firefighters Association continue to mourn the loss of beloved firefighter, Captain Andy Orphanoudakis. Captain Orphanoudakis passed away due to COVID-19, which he contracted while serving the citizens of City of Hardeeville, SC.

Orphanoudakis worked in the fire service for 30+ years and had been with the Hardeeville Fire Department since December 2016. Orphanoudakis has been posthumously promoted to Captain.

His memorial service is planned for Friday, October 8, 2021. The Hardeeville Fire Department respectfully invites you to pay tribute to our fallen firefighter by attending the memorial service. The firefighter memorial service will take place in the Hardeeville Recreation Center (285 John Smith Rd, Hardeeville, SC) with the ceremony starting at 2PM, the procession immediately following the conclusion of the service.

A 36 year old man with a 20 pack year history is reviewed on the evening ward round. He had presented to the ER earlier that day with dizziness and shortness of breath. He had been referred to the medical team on call. His observations are completely normal and there is nothing to find on examination. He now feels well. He is about to be sent home with a diagnosis of ‘panic attacks’. His ECG at presentation is shown below.

An elderly gentleman is brought in by ambulance from home. He has developed progressive shortness of breath over a period of two months. He is now bed bound and is visibly short of breath sitting upright in the cubicle bed. His JVP is 8cm. Bi-basal crepitations are heard on auscultation. His ECG at presentation is shown below.
