Watch out for black ice! ❄️ Slips can happen in an instant, if you fall, make sure to get checked right away to prevent injuries from getting worse! To help protect yourself and reduce the risk of falls, try incorporating exercises that improve strength and balance, such as:

✨ Leg and core strengthening (squats, lunges, bridges)

✨ Balance exercises (single-leg stands, heel-to-toe walking)

✨ Flexibility and mobility work (stretching hips, hamstrings, calves)

✨ Low-impact cardio (walking, cycling, swimming)

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Carissa Finney, PT, DPT 🌟

Born and raised in Ledyard, CT, Carissa’s journey with Independence Physical Therapy truly comes full circle. She first joined IPT at just 16 years old as a tech and has since experienced IPT as a patient, a student, and now a physical therapist. It was here that Carissa discovered her passion for physical therapy and knew this was the path for her.

Carissa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2018, followed by a Master’s degree in Mental Health and Wellness with an emphasis in prevention from Grand Canyon University in 2020. She went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Methodist University in 2024. 🎓

She specializes in dry needling and vestibular rehabilitation and loves working with post-operative patients, individuals experiencing dizziness, and those with general orthopedic needs. Carissa is passionate about helping patients feel stronger, more confident, and supported every step of the way. 💪

Outside of the clinic, you’ll find Carissa reading, working out, and spending time with family and friends. 📚🏋️‍♀️

We’re proud to have Carissa back at IPT, right where her PT journey began! 💙
