This is your sign to step outside, reconnect, and take a mental health walk. 🪧

Even a few moments with the land, fresh air, and your own breath can help bring you back to balance. Root yourself, move with intention, and give your mind the care it deserves. 🫶🏽✨

Native Men’s Group welcomed 17 participants for an evening rooted in connection, reflection, and community care. 🌱

We gathered over a shared meal, opened with a lighthearted “Group Juggle” to build comfort and connection, and moved into conversation around our first outing to the Pecos Ruins. Together, we’re creating space to connect not only with one another, but with land, history, and shared experience.

We closed with a gratitude check-out, with powerful reflections that grounded the space in a good way.

We are deeply thankful to the Santa Fe Indigenous Center for holding space for our Native men. We look forward to continuing to build and grow this space together.🤎

Grateful for spaces that allow us to slow down, connect, and just be together 🤎 Big shoutout to our ICDC team for organizing an intentional team bonding experience with the ✨Que Sera Alpaca✨

We learned so much as a team, leaning into trust, supporting one another, and even trusting the alpacas 🤝

A reminder that connection, patience, and a little bit of joy go a long way 🌿

TRS Youth Spring Break continued with Forest Bound in Nanbé Owingeh’s own pine forest in collaboration with the Institute for Applied Ecology and the Pojoaque Pueblo Language Department. 🌿

Youth spent time in our ponderosa pine forest near the headwaters, practicing Tewa immersion through interactive games while learning about seasonal ecology transitions on our ancestral lands.

They also created seed balls to support Indigenous flower restoration for our pollinators and explored the forest floor by imagining the landscape from an ant’s perspective building their own “micro planets” and observing the small worlds that exist all around us.

Through connection with land, water, language, imagination, and one another, we wrapped up our Winter Cohort in a meaningful way.✨🤝

Be sure to join us this summer for more Basecamp adventures! ☀️

This past weekend, Tewa Roots Society had the opportunity to present at the Women’s Brunch hosted by the Santa Fe Indigenous Center.

During the gathering, we shared more about the programs and services TRS offers and ways community members can get involved and connect with our work. Opportunities like this allow us to strengthen relationships and continue building pathways of support for Indigenous youth, families, and community. 🤎

Kuu da woha to the Santa Fe Indigenous Center for creating a space by and for Indigenous Peoples and for inviting us to be part of the conversation.

TRS Youth Spring Break kicked off with Forest Bound Day One in collaboration with the Institute for Applied Ecology and the Pojoaque Pueblo Language Department. 🌿

Youth spent the day learning about seasonal ecology transitions on our ancestral lands while grounding themselves in Tewa directions and seasons, deepening their connection to land, language, and place.

The group visited Bandelier, NM home of the Tewa and Keres speaking people, where these teachings continue to live through the land and our communities.

A meaningful start to a week of learning, exploration, and community. 🤎

Tewa Roots Society leadership had the opportunity to visit the Pines Institute and learn more about the services they provide to support recovery and wellness in New Mexico.

From transitional housing to peer support and therapy services, their work reflects a strong commitment to integrity, resilience, and community. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect and learn from organizations doing meaningful work to strengthen behavioral health support across our communities.

Opportunities like this help build relationships and strengthen partnerships that support healing and long-term recovery across New Mexico. 🤍

Sanding & Slip Day ✨

As part of the micaceous pottery process, our GUIDE youth carefully sanded their pieces to smooth and refine the surface. After sanding, they gently wiped each piece with a damp cloth before applying slip.

Through this process, youth are learning that pottery is more than art. It is knowledge held in the Earth. Clay carries stories, teachings, and ways of learning that have been passed through generations.

Learning these practices from Martha Romero (Nambé Owingeh) connects youth to land based knowledge and intergenerational teaching. Each step in the process reminds us that our communities have always held ways of learning, creating, and sharing knowledge with the Earth.

We’re excited to see how each piece continues to take shape. 🤎✨🐢
