We are a group of passionate and experienced midwives specializing in natural childbirth. We have two birth centers.

Sonoma Valley Birth Center, 4859 Old Redwood Hwy, Santa Rosa, CA 95403
Napa Valley Birth Center, 525 Lincoln Ave, Napa, CA 94558 We are a group of passionate and professional midwives who aid women and families in birthing naturally in their own home on their own terms. As midwives we feel it is our calling to be an advocate for women and the normalcy of birth. We educate and guide others in the areas of birth and pregnancy, and we support you and your family through the entire process. Our goal is to help you give birth in your unique, perfect way that is right for your body and your baby. We are well versed in many forms of birth knowledge, from the ancient to the cutting edge. We feel it's important to work in partnership with modern western medicine, and we recommend its wise use when necessary. We also use herbs, homeopathics and many other holistic and traditional medicines to support healthy pregnancy and birth. We are well trained in birth emergency care to provide you and your baby with the safest birthing experience.

Meet the Team

TerriAnne Gutierrez
TerriAnne is a birth educator and doula - as well as Education Director for The Midwives Childbirth Services.

She began working within the birthing world over 45 years ago as a traditional midwife. Over time she began to specialize more and more in birth education and doula services. In her words:

"During the 1970s hospitals were not supportive of gentle births. A home birth was the only option if you wanted a chance to deliver un-medicated or be allowed to birth at your own pace and in a peaceful environment."

"It was rare to find a midwife or doctor to attend a family at home, and women wanting more control of how they would give birth were doing it alone, assisted only by their partners and friends."

"Sonoma County was lucky to have Traditional Midwife, Nan Kholer and husband OBGYN, Dr. Don Solomon. They not only attended these women at home, but also trained other’s to become Traditional Midwives. I studied with them for years and attended many births."

In 1993 California began licensing Midwives, and people like TerriAnne began the long process of documenting the training and births they had attended in order to add the new credential. Ultimately TerriAnne found the new protocols to be too restricting and decided to make the shift to being a Doula and Birth Educator.

TerriAnne has degrees in Early Childhood Development as well as Activism and Social Change from New College of California. She is mother to 3 beautiful humans and grandmother to 10 grandchildren.

Meet the Team
Carolyn Hernandez RN, BSN, IBCLC
Carolyn is a mother of two, Registered Nurse, Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and soon-to-be Midwife. She is passionate about women’s health and empowering families to make holistic, well-informed decisions in pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. As a student midwife and experienced team member, Carolyn is honored to care for and support families through their unique journey.

“My love of midwifery bloomed when I had the chance to see firsthand, the sharp contrast between medicalized birth in the hospital and uninterrupted birth at home with a midwife. I marveled at how intimate, secure, and private the labors at home felt, compared to the bright, invasive, and often dismissive atmosphere of the labor and delivery unit. I knew then that I would love walking alongside families as they navigate the joys and challenges of pregnancy and birth.”
