We were out this weekend doing trail recon and a full course preview for the Rim Rock 50 Mile Trail Challenge — happening May 16, 2026 at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa.

And let me tell you… this course is coming alive.

Brand new trails that reach out to massive vistas overlooking the entire Bay Area and Napa Valley. Rolling hills that lull you in. Steep inclines that test you. Long descents that demand respect.

Single track.
Fire roads.
Fern-covered corridors.
Miles and miles of oak-lined trail.

This isn’t a city ultra.
This isn’t a flat cruise.

This is one of Northern California’s newest — and hardest — 50 mile races.

Brought to you by Bay Trailrunners, this event stays true to old-school trail running. Grit. Community. Volunteers who are the backbone of it all. Aid stations that feel like family. Camping under the stars. A shared meal after 50 tough miles.

What a wonderful day out on the trails doing recon for the Rim Rock Trail Challenge 50-Mile and exploring some brand-new routes for the Skyline Wilderness Trail Run at Skyline Wilderness Park and Napa Open Space.

We got to check out some absolutely beautiful new trails that have just opened this year—yes, some of these will be part of the 2026 courses. The parks have put in a ton of work updating signage, improving trail conditions, and dialing in the camping areas, and everything is looking fantastic. There’s plenty of room for everyone this year.

We’re looking forward to another great event with:
• Camping
• Great food & drinks post-run
• Incredible volunteers and staff
• A familiar aid station at Lake Marie
• A brand-new aid station deep out on the new trails 🌲

If there’s interest, we’re putting together three training runs ahead of the 50-Mile Rim Rock Trail Challenge. We’ll hit some classic East Bay and Diablo terrain, plus at least one run at Skyline Wilderness Park so you can get a feel for race day.
