Medical visits can be overwhelming for some children — especially those who have experienced stressful or complex medical care in the past.

At Aurora Pediatric Therapy and Integrative Health, we believe a child’s hesitation, fear, or even a firm “no” is meaningful communication. Instead of forcing compliance, we work together across disciplines to create a plan that prioritizes safety, trust, and dignity.

Through interprofessional collaboration between speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral health, medical providers, and families, we support children in accessing the care they need in ways that respect their sensory needs, communication style, and emotional history.

This precious baby was born exactly seven days before Christmas—21 years ago.

I’ll never forget being a new mom (and a newlywed), trying to figure out breastfeeding while balancing the demands of the holidays. I desperately wanted to hold on to the family time and traditions of both my family and my husband’s.

We ended up doing all the things: visiting my family, his family, “trying” to nurse a newborn who had destroyed my ni***es to the point of bleeding—all with a smile on my face as a newlywed couple with an infant in tow.

That night, we found ourselves at a 24-hour Walgreens, desperately searching for a thermometer and some Tylenol. I didn’t know it then, but I was dealing with my first (of many) cases of mastitis while my completely dysregulated newborn screamed in the back seat.

🎄✨ Holiday Magic at Aurora Pediatric Therapy and Integrative Health ✨🎄

Yesterday, our amazing Behavioral Health Supervisor, Samantha Ogunsanya, brought pure joy to our patients by surprising them with gifts under the tree! 🎁

It was truly magical to witness their eyes light up with wonder and surprise when they realized the gifts were just for them. Moments like these remind us of the power of kindness and connection. 💖

We had a wonderful time sharing dinner, games and fun together as a team to celebrate the holiday!

In lieu of gifts for each other, as a team we decided to purchase gifts for the family we are sponsoring through the The Branch Moms Community

Our team (and our cuddly clinic bear!) joined together for a fun, imaginative tea party to celebrate play, connection, and the simple moments that make childhood magical. Earlier in the week, we kept the celebration going with cute bear photos and playful moments around the clinic. Play-based activities like this support social skills, creativity, and emotional regulation, all while bringing big smiles to our kiddos and staff! 💜
