✨ Problems related to self-esteem, confidence, isolation, and loneliness are very common in teens who seek therapy.

✨ In therapy sessions, I offer a variety of therapeutic modalities that are best suited to the teen’s particular problem. Most commonly, a combination of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
MBSR helps teens regulate emotions more effectively and approach problems with a calmer and more relaxed mind. Teenagers often get caught up in a negative thought cycle, and this can exacerbate the problem. Yoga and meditation can help reduce the intensity of heightened emotions and thoughts.
Cognitive therapy helps teenagers detect automatic negative thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and behaviors that stem from a situation or event. Cognitive techniques help teens untangle those negative beliefs.

For example, the teen brings up insecurity or lack of confidence issues and says “When I walk alone in the hallway, people don't want to talk to me, and no one likes me”. A cognitive approach to therapy helps the teen interpret a disturbance differently so they no longer feel lonely, inadequate, and insecure. The teen after some exploration comes up with a thought “everyone walks alone in the hallway, my friends are just getting out of the classroom, and I can see who’s available and come up to a person first”
