The practice of yoga is expansive but not always well understood by those who have yet to steep in the tradition. Yoga is often recommended by doctors, therapists and physical therapists and well meaning friends & family. But where does one begin when they are ready to explore this practice and how do they ensure safety? Some classes can be demanding and hard to keep up with and when you are new to yoga how do you know if you are choosing the correct class or doing the postures correctly?
All of this is answered in our 4 week yoga for beginners series. Students will learn how to discern what the descriptions of yoga classes actually mean and which public classes are best for their bodies.
Each week we will explore a 1 hour class and build upon our knowledge of what yoga is and what yoga is not. We will practice common poses and transitions between poses. We will also work with each student on their unique set of concerns and how to make the postures more accessible for their bodies, allowing them to know how to modify the posture when taking public classes.
Week 1 - What is yoga? We will define different class types and structures. Gentle foundational practice.
Week 2 - How to breathe in yoga. Building strength and stability in standing poses.
Week 3 - How to use props and why. Restorative practice.
Week 4 - Injury Prevention. Hatha practice
Within the structure of these 4 weeks you will leave feeling confident that you can choose and enjoy any of the classes on the schedule. Building a practice that supports your overall well being.
