Kidneys are the body's chemical factories filtering waste and performing vital functions that control things like red blood cell production and blood pressure.

Overtime, your kidneys can become damaged with little or no physical symptoms to let you know that your kidneys are in trouble.

That's why this , take 5 for your kidneys!
✔️ Get tested annually if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, have a family history of kidney failure or are over the age 60.
✔️ Reduce NSAIDs. Over the counter medicines, such as NSAIDs may alleviate your aches and pains but can harm your kidneys. Reduce your regular use of them.
✔️ Cut out processed foods 🌭 Sodium, nitrates and phosphates found in processed foods have been linked to kidney disease.
✔️ Exercise regularly 🏃🏿‍♀️ Your kidneys like it when you do!
✔️ Control blood pressure and diabetes⭐ Both are leading causes of kidney disease and failure. Managing them can slow the progression of kidney disease.

Writing can be a powerful tool to strengthen memory and keep your mind sharp! ✍️ Why not write a short story based on a memory whether real or imagined? It’s a fun way to engage your mind, spark creativity, and boost cognitive flexibility. 🌟 Remember, every story is valuable, and the process of writing helps to keep those neural pathways active. 🫶

Just as we take steps to ensure we are physically healthy, it’s important to take care of our mental health, too! 🧠🫶 We can help ourselves or our loved ones stay hopeful during periods of loneliness or stress by developing a well-being plan for social and mental health.
Some ideas:⠀
- Connect with family over phone calls, FaceTime, texts, and email.⠀
- Keep moving! Try yoga, dancing, walking, or lifting weights.⠀
- Find joy in everyday activities like card games, baking, or eating your favorite foods.

It wasn't popcorn 🍿- just a few thousand balls of colored tissue paper, enough to create some festive frames! Those bright colors were the pick up our crafters needed after a long winter.

Some of the artists continued to decorate the inside of the frame, by adding stickers with fun sayings & pretty flowers or a photo of their own. 🖼️

Afternoons spent crafting & conversing are the best! Thanks to Linda R., Margaret B., Mary Anne S., and Barbara L. for the help!

Dry skin is common in older adults - especially in these winter months. While there may be several reasons for this, such as diabetes, kidney disease, or medicines, one primary cause is not consuming enough liquids.⁣
🫶
For motivation to drink more water, treat yourself to a fancy new water bottle! Unless your physician has restricted your fluid intake, make every effort to drink water all day long. If you aren’t sure how much you should be drinking each day, ask your doctor for advice.⁣

Also, use an ample amount of lotion. Find an unscented moisturizer or one whose scent is pleasing to you, and stock up. You should apply it every morning and every night before going to bed.

🌟 The Importance of Taking Small Steps Toward Lasting Change 🌟
In our pursuit of wellness, it’s tempting to make big, sweeping changes. But large leaps can feel overwhelming and often lead to burnout. Real, sustainable change happens through small, consistent steps that build confidence and create lasting habits.
By focusing on smaller, manageable steps—like drinking an extra glass of water each day or adding a few more minutes of movement—you’re more likely to stick with your goals and enjoy the journey!
