It's coming up on parent/teacher conference time, which is an opportunity for parents of children in specialized education to dive deeper into how things have been going during the first six weeks of school.

This can be a stressful time if parents do not know what to ask or if they do not have outside clinicians supporting them. In support of World Mental Health Day, I am sharing the HERO Wellness Scale (Happiness-Enthusiasm-Resilience-and Optimism). This scale provides a baseline regarding overall wellness for an individual. The WILD 5 curriculum is something I've used in several support groups because it provides straight-forward behavior based changes that result in increased wellness. If you're looking to increase your wellness, this is a great place to start!

The best advice is to practice with the kids and prepare them. Social stories are a fantastic way to prepare them for the structure and expectations. I found this great site with pre-made stories regarding Halloween and some associated events!
