Massage does so much more than release tight muscles and ease pain - it helps calm your nervous system, allowing your body to truly rest and recover.

When the parasympathetic response (your “rest and digest” state) activates, your heart rate slows, blood pressure lowers, and stress hormones decrease. At the same time, massage boosts feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine, helping you feel more relaxed, balanced, and at ease.

By softening muscles that may be compressing nerves and improving circulation, massage supports clearer communication between your brain and body, enhancing how you respond to stress, movement, and healing.

Your massage doesn’t end when you leave the table! What you do afterward can make a big difference in how your body heals and responds.

Here are a few simple ways to help your body recover and get the most out of your session:

1. Stay Hydrated
Massage helps release built-up tension and metabolic waste from your muscles. Drink plenty of water (or herbal tea) afterward to help your body flush out toxins and stay hydrated.
2. Rest and Relax
Give your body time to integrate the effects of the massage. Light stretching or a gentle walk is fine, but try to avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours.
3. Use Heat or Ice as Needed
Feeling sore? Apply gentle heat for stiffness or cold for inflammation. Just remember - never place either directly on your skin.
4. Eat Light and Nourishing Foods
Opt for balanced, nutrient-rich meals that support your body’s recovery. Think lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables over heavy or greasy foods.
5. Listen to Your Body
Mild soreness can be normal after a therapeutic massage, but pay attention to how you feel over the next day or two. If anything feels unusual, let me know before your next session.

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to stress or injury - it’s part of how we heal. But when it lingers, it can lead to pain, stiffness, and fatigue.

At Recoverwell, my goal is to help calm the body and restore balance. Through gentle, intentional techniques, we improve circulation, release tension, and support your body’s natural ability to reduce inflammation from the outside in.
