At Naples Yoga Center we honor yoga deeply by bringing our movement expertise to you, as well as an education in the philosophical roots of the practice. Join us in classes, workshops and even on our upcoming retreat to Costa Rica this April to discover this rich way of learning yoga. This week, we are moving to and studying the topic of "The Flow of Life."

Yoga is not separate from life, and each yoga practice can resemble life's flow and fluctuations. A devotion to yoga is to allow effort and surrender to move us toward clarity and wisdom.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1.20 reminds us:
śraddhā-vīrya-smṛti-samādhi-prajñā-pūrvaka itareṣām

The words of this sutra define qualities that carry us through the flow of life:

Śraddhā is trusting the flow, even when there is no evidence of progress.
Vīrya is strength and resolve during times of uncertainty.
Smṛti is the memory that shapes our wisdom.
Samādhi is the fruit of steady effort and concentration.
Prajñā is the wisdom to see with clarity.

On Thursday we flow with you, we flow with one another, we flow with life:

This Week at NYC: The Flow of Life

"To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go."
- Mary Oliver

Every yoga class can be seen as a metaphor of life’s journey. Transitions unfold as we move from one posture to the next, reminding us that change is fostered by our non-grasping. Growth emerges when we meet challenge with breath and curiosity, and bravely see new possibilities. Letting go arrives in the soft release of tension and over-thinking, teaching us to surrender.

On the mat, it may look like we are tangling ourselves into shapes, but this is how we rehearse the art of living. We put our trust in what is, honor the change, and practice the release.

This week at Naples Yoga Center, we continue the flow of life through yoga. Your teacher will support this process with mindful movement, steady breath, and the sharing of the yoga philosophy that teaches us to be skillful inhabitants of your body and your life.

"Listen to your heart. It knows all things, because it came from the Soul of the World and it will one day return there." — Paulo Coelho

In each breath, feel the pulse of your own truth. In each pose, soften into the knowing that lives beneath thought. Your heart is not just a muscle—it’s a compass and a home.

Move gently. Listen deeply. Trust wildly.

This Week: Listen

The simple act of paying attention brings the most abundance in our practice. Yoga is the art of listening. Not just to the breath, but to the quiet truths beneath it.
To the body’s whispers, to the stories held in the hips, the heart, the hands. Each pose is a conversation and a relationship. Each transition is a chance to hear what’s changing.

On Thursday, we hold the space for your listening:

This Week: Listen

“He who knows, does not speak. He who speaks, does not know.”
— Lao Tzu

Listening is the giving that you cannot measure, yet is the most valuable. In our lives we are wired to think that doing is the greatest act, yet we are taught over and over by the teachers of awakening that being is the greater path. When the world and our personal lives seem chaotic and violent, it is often because we have not stopped to listen. This lesson is learned on every level; when needs are not heard, the manner of speaking will turn to shouting. In the body, the symptom will become the disease. In our relationships, the miscommunications will become disconnection. In our communities, the lack of understanding will become wars. Can you hear it? We are being called to stop, to listen. This week on the mat, we will attune our body-mind structure to recognize what needs to be heard.

THIS SATURDAY AT NYC

"You have to understand that it is your attempt to get special experiences from life that makes you miss the actual experience of life." -Michael Singer

Yoga reminds us that wisdom isn’t only in the poses—it’s in how we meet each moment, each person, and the wider world. Upaya calls us to act with compassion and clarity, choosing responses that nurture rather than deplete.

This Saturday, let’s move together with that intention:

•Ashtanga Led Primary with Amy — 7 am
•Vinyasa with Cesar — 9 am
•Strength, Mobility & Yin with Cesar — 10:15 am

Every breath, every posture, every choice is a chance to practice skillful living.

"In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?" -Gabrielle Roth

In yoga, we call this kind of medicine Upaya — skillful means. It’s the art of choosing the right response for the moment, the practice of meeting life with wisdom and creativity.

Sometimes the most skillful thing we can do is return to the playful practices that restore us:
•Moving not to perfect, but to delight
•Singing not to perform, but to release
•Listening to stories that reawaken wonder
•Sitting in silence that feels like a friend

Play is not frivolous — it’s medicine. It softens the edges, restores our spirit, and reminds us that joy is a form of wisdom too.

In Thursday's classes, we’ll explore Upaya as a playful return: dancing, breathing, moving, and resting in ways that bring us back to ourselves.

"Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." -Howard Thurman

This week at Naples Yoga Center, we embody Upaya, which represents skillful and expedient means. Yoga calls us home to our fierce clarity and decisive action. This is when your breath steadies and you recognize yourself and exactly where you are going, in the reality of the present moment. We drop our striving and the contemplation of what is missing to see our own sacred resourcefulness.

Yoga helps us listen for that aliveness.
Not the loud kind.
The quiet, rooted kind that says:
I choose this.
I commit to this.
This is who I am.

And here’s where upaya—skillful means—guides us. It’s not just about doing what makes us come alive, but doing it with wisdom, compassion, and timing.

Come alive.
Then go do it.

SATURDAY AT NYC

In yoga, we are asked to walk the edge between opposites. In the philosophy of yoga, we are presented with a paradox:
To show up with fierce devotion (abhyāsa),
And to let go with grace (vairāgya).
This is the balance that transforms effort into ease and discipline into freedom

Our focus at Naples Yoga Center is to educate and move you. Join us on the mat tomorrow to explore:

7 AM Ashtanga Led Primary with Amy
Root into steady repetition, the fire of abhyāsa.

9 AM Vinyasa with Cesar
Flow with breath and presence, releasing what no longer serves.

10:15 AM Strength, Mobility & Yin with Cesar
Build resilience, then soften into surrender. Vairāgya in motion.

THURSDAY AT NYC

“Elongation and extension can only occur when the pulling and the pushing comes to an end; this is the revolution.” - Vanda Scaravelli

Yoga is the study of opposites and paradox—Abhyasa (steady effort) and Vairagya (gentle release), Prana (life force rising) and Apana (grounding flow). Each breath and movement invites us to explore the tension and harmony between doing and undoing.

This Thursday, join us in the sacred rhythm of opposites:

Awaken your discipline and devotion at 7 AM — Ashtanga Elements with Amy

Flow with effort and surrender at 9 AM — Vinyasa with Amy

Balance activation and restoration at 10:15 AM — Strength, Mobility & Yin with Cesar

TUESDAY AT NYC

In our practice and in life, we find balance through opposing actions. In yoga, balance isn’t found by erasing tension—it’s discovered by working with it. Prana lifts us upward, expanding and energizing. Apana draws us downward, grounding and releasing.

When we practice, we don’t choose one over the other. We invite both currents to flow, letting their opposition create harmony. Rooting strongly makes rising possible, effort makes ease more profound, and strength makes surrender safe.

Tuesday's classes are an exploration of the dance of opposites:

Ashtanga Elements with Amy — 7:00 am

Vinyasa with Cesar — 9:00 am

Strength, Mobility & Yin with Cesar — 10:15 am

Come breathe, move, and discover how balance is not the absence of paradox, but the gift of holding both.

SATURDAY AT NYC

"Once we learn to touch this peace,
we will be healed and transformed.
It is not a matter of faith,
it is a matter of practice."
-Thich Nhat Hanh

The practice of yoga was designed to reveal your most valuable inner resource: stillness.
In the stillness between breaths and movements, we discover the wellspring of strength, clarity, and renewal. Yoga reminds us that stillness is not emptiness, it is the pluripotent space from which we align with who we are and our capability to grow in challenging circumstances.

This Saturday morning, join us in practices that awaken your inner resource:

7 AM — Ashtanga Led Primary with Amy will lead you to stillness through discipline, focus, and breath.

9 AM — Vinyasa with Cesar will channel your energy through creative flow.

10:15 AM — Strength, Mobility & Yin with Cesar will balance your effort with resilient surrender.

1 pm - 3 pm — Pilates: A System for Life Part Two with Tania Melkonian. You are welcome to learn the foundations of Pilates in an in-depth way, even if you missed Part One!
