EMDR therapy, also known as eye movement desensitization, and re-processing can truly be life-changing for some clients. Personally, I have seen how it can transform the experience and change how someone feels about their trauma. At times, this means that they may see improved relationships, and connection with others.

Read more… but only if your ready for the ugly truth. This is the PG version of unbelievable things people say to q***r folk. Often LE****NS are sexualized, GAY men are seen as disgusting, BI invalidated as undecided, and TRANSgender are villainized as threats to sports and society. Even within the community these biases are prevalent with interlized hate. When in a reality we are just trying to live our best life, loving who we love, and being ourselves. There is space and freedom to live how you want to live, love who you love, and it doesn’t lessen one another. 4 things I use to remind myself as I raise my daughters:
1. I slow down to listen to their preferences- their thoughts and feelings matter. With young kids they have very specific preferences for how they present themselves to others. REMINDER: I can also check in with my preferences… It doesn’t all have to be a sacrifice.
2. I validate their feelings and their experiences. Yes they can do hard things AND falling hurts. REMINDER: I also can check in with my feelings- a healthy mom contributes to a healthy family.
3. Acknowledge progress isn’t linear. Progress happens inside and out(for example our youngest went bald twice before growing those curls). REMINDER: I’m committed to working on myself, and freely admit I’m not perfect.
4. Celebrate the differences- she wants to scooter when we ride bikes… we don’t all have to do the same thing. REMINDER: I am going to uniquely be their mom in a way that no other mom could be, it’s what makes our bonds special.
All of these things I had to re-program were okay for me, as I learned my own self expression and finding validation. If you can relate to the commitment of personal growth follow me for more authentic content.

So often complex trauma survivors are trying to do just that, survive the day to day all the while carrying a mental load, predicting behaviors for safety seeking and retracting their nervous system to not overreact. However one of the most helpful things is learning to laugh at yourself and maybe shaking off the bad vibes. Perhaps a little silly dance can change the tone and help you let loose. Grow in your own way, at your own pace. For individuals overcoming Trauma it means overcoming dark days, stormy weather and making the most of what you got- a little dirt, some sunshine, and an occasional downpour. All of it helps you become resilient and stronger, it just looks different for everyone.

Helping clients with Compex Trauma is my specialty. When I hear other therapist saying they help complex trauma in just a few sessions, that is a major red flag.🚩🚩🚩🚩 Damage that happens over multiple years, and then is compounded by current events or re-traumatizing it’s not a quick fix. If someone claims to have healed after just a few session, likely they hit a point where it got uncomfortable and became easier to avoid than to address head on. It takes dedicating to the process for the therapist and the client. Follow me for more authentic content. ❤️‍🩹
