This is powerful news for our communities and a reminder that progress is possible when people, partners, and compassion come together.

Over the past decade, opioid overdoses and deaths have been cut nearly in half in Manchester and Nashua. Behind those numbers are real people, second chances, and systems built to meet individuals where they are.

Southern New Hampshire Health is proud to play a role through programs like Reverse the Cycle, emergency department screening, peer recovery support, and our partnership with the Doorway of Greater Nashua. Alongside The Doorway network, first responders, community organizations, and state leaders, we are helping create more access points to care and more paths to recovery.

Recovery starts with a doorway. Sometimes it starts with food, a conversation, or Narcan. Sometimes it starts in an emergency department. What matters is that the door is open.

We’re grateful to stand with our partners who prove every day that recovery is possible and that lives can and do change.

Rachel is a dedicated patient service representative at Merrimack Medical Center and has been a valued member of the team for just over two years. She plays a key role in opening the practice each morning and is often the first friendly face patients see when they walk through the door.

Known for her compassion and empathy, Rachel consistently makes patients feel heard and supported. She brings a calm, steady presence to every interaction, whether in person or on the phone, and is admired by both patients and coworkers for her kindness, attentiveness, and ability to maintain a level head in any situation.

Rachel joined Southern New Hampshire Health after more than 20 years in the retail field, seeking a career change despite having no prior medical experience. She quickly caught on and has become an integral part of the practice. Her coworkers have nothing but positive things to say about her dedication and professionalism.

Outside of work, Rachel enjoys gardening, camping, attending comedy shows, spending time with her family, and her dog, Beau.

Laura Johnson, APRN-WHNP, has spent nearly 10 years with Foundation Medical Partners providing compassionate, high-quality care as a women’s health OB/GYN nurse practitioner at Foundation OB/GYN. Now, she brings that experience and dedication to New England Gynecology & Surgical Services, where she is joining the team to continue providing care to women across the region.

As a women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP), Laura focuses on “providing high-quality, compassionate care while recognizing the complex and evolving health needs women face across their lifespan.” Her work supports patients at every stage of life, with an emphasis on respect, understanding, and individualized care.

Laura describes her approach to patient care as collaborative, sharing that she prioritizes “effective communication and empowering patients to actively participate in decisions about their health.” This partnership helps patients feel informed, confident, and supported throughout their care.

Born and raised in Southern New Hampshire, Laura was motivated to join Foundation Medical Partners as a way to give back to the community she has always called home. She was also drawn to the strong non-profit mission and collaborative culture. “The supportive staff, meaningful relationships with my patients, and ongoing opportunities for both professional and personal growth” are the reasons she has chosen to build her practice here.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young children, reading or listening to e-books, watching her favorite shows, and getting outside with their dog.
