The holidays can be a sweet and sometimes stressful time that can derail your healing if you are freshly postpartum! Here are some tips that keep the healing of your pelvic floor and postpartum body a top priority.
1. Plan breastfeeding-friendly spaces ahead of time.
Decide where you’ll nurse or pump comfortably (a quiet bedroom, a guest room). Let your partner or host know you’ll be taking breaks for feeding. Note: breastfeeding anywhere and everywhere sounds nice, but if you aren’t completely comfortable, stress and anxiety could make feeding harder.
2. Don’t Hold Your Bladder “Just to Be Polite”
Holiday gatherings often mean long conversations and fewer bathroom breaks. Go when you need to!
3. Bring your own comfy seating + breastfeeding pillow.
Holiday gatherings rarely have supportive seating. A firm chair or pillow protects your pelvic floor and your back.
4. Lift Nothing Heavier Than Your Baby
Avoid heavy casserole dishes, stacked chairs, and baby gear when someone else can carry it.
Your core + pelvic floor are still rebuilding!
5. Have your partner be the boundary keeper.
Have them redirect questions, manage visitors, and communicate when it’s time for you and baby to take a break.
6. Leave early (or skip entirely) if the environment is overstimulating. Loud, busy spaces can overwhelm both your healing body and a newborn. Have a “no-guilt exit plan” ready.
