👑 OFFICIAL NEW CEO ANNOUNCEMENT 🌺

On February 19, 2026, on the eve of MashUp’s 9th birthday, Jerry Ivery, Jr., Esq. was officially installed as the next Chief Executive Officer of MashUp in a private ceremony marking a powerful moment of transition for our organization.

Jerry joined MashUp in 2020 with a deep commitment to justice and community. A seasoned legal professional, he previously served as Director of Procurement for the Tennessee Department of Health and as Assistant General Counsel for CKE Restaurants and the Human Rights Campaign. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in Management Information Systems and a Juris Doctor with certification in Tax Law, Jerry brings strategic precision and purpose driven leadership to this role.

As Chief Operating Officer, he helped lead MashUp through transformative growth. The organization expanded from its first $5,000 grant into a $582,218 annual operating budget, with revenue increasing 98 percent year over year. Funding streams diversified across corporate and foundation partners, government grants, nonprofits, and individual donors. During this time, MashUp reinvested $190,300 directly into local minority and q***r professionals and small businesses.

Jerry also helped create The Wholiness Project, addressing religious trauma and creating safe spaces for LGBTQ individuals to reconcile faith and identity. It is healing work that embodies the Spirit of MashUp.

As Jerry shared, “The spirit of MashUp! has come and resided in my life; it has changed me and brought me to this place.”

Looking ahead, his vision includes expanding staff capacity, increasing leadership diversity, strengthening internal systems, diversifying funding, and positioning MashUp as a leading force in Black q***r healing.

This is not just a leadership change. It is sustained momentum.

The Spirit of MashUp continues.

Join us in celebrating our new Chief Executive Officer, Jerry Ivery, Jr., Esq.

👑 OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF RESIGNATION 💛

On February 20, 2017, MashUp was birthed into the universe by our visionary founder, Dr. Brian Issac Marshall, who dared to build what was needed. He did not just launch an organization. He activated a movement rooted in liberation, wellness, and radical belonging for the Black q***r community. What emerged was strategy wrapped in compassion and what we now call the Spirit of MashUp.

Under Dr. Marshall’s leadership, that vision became measurable impact. MashUp grew into an organization operating at over $500,000 annually. He championed initiatives like the Mindful MashUp Transformation Program, saving an estimated $35,000 in healthcare costs for Black LGBTQ individuals by addressing trauma and mental wellness at the root. MashUp established nearly 20 local partners and fiscal sponsors, secured state and federal funding, and cultivated private investments to sustain the mission long term.

As MashUp entered its ninth year, Dr. Marshall fulfilled his “Seven Three” leadership mantra, seven years of building followed by three intentional years of transition to prepare the next leader. In November 2025, he submitted his successor’s name to the Village Keepers, who unanimously approved.

On February 19, 2026, the eve of MashUp’s 9th birthday, a formal transition ceremony installed the next CEO. This was not abrupt. It was alignment.

As Dr. Marshall has said, “There comes a time when the assignment is fulfilled, not because the vision has ended, but because it has become strong enough to live beyond you.”

The next chapter begins…….

Thank you to each and everyone of you who came out in support of MashUp, who came out to be in community, who came out to experience unapologetic joy, who prioritized themselves and showed up as self care, who showed out in liberation, in ressurection, and to those who added an ingredient to our collective stone soup. We are in awe and so deeply thankful, beyond words for you all.

On Sunday we talked about MashUp's impact and how we measure our impact. To put it simply, MashUp’s impact is defined by all of you. However successful you want this to be—whatever you need, however much you are willing to invest in yourself—MashUp can be that and more. These feedback surveys literally define how we move forward, how we plan and execute our programming, what we offer, how we operate... it is all created based on your voice. So, please if you have a moment today or later this week to fill our our event survey and tell us what you need, what you loved, and how we can show up for you, we would appreciate that very much (https://forms.gle/o4vpTn3uLSPjCeJH7).

We are also so close to meeting our goal. It really took a village to get this far, and look what we did y'all! We are 70% to our $100k goal. If you didn't get a chance to donate, or know someone who has been looking for a sure bet to invest in, please share our donation info with them (https://www.mashupnation.org/mashupweekend). In just the last year, MashUp has directly contributed $190.3k to local minority/q***r professionals and small businesses. Our programmatic expenses make up 66.4% of our budget—which means the majority of your donations are going right back to Black q***r folks, whether directly through services or as free resources and services that normally would have an associated cost.

We have delivered 200+ hours of therapy since 2023 through our Mindful MashUp Transformation Program, saving participants an estimated $35,000 in healthcare costs while addressing mental health and tobacco-related disparities. And these are just a few examples of the impact we have. Join us in our dedication to celebrating Black q***r folks and culture, extinguishing the fire that fuels injustice, ensuring health equity, and building power sustainability together.
