Spring is often a time for cleaning, organizing, and planning ahead.

But have you talked with your family about their wishes for medical care? These conversations can be difficult, but they are ultimately a gift and so important for you and your loved ones.

Advance care planning (ACP) is a core component of hospice, yet research suggests that anywhere from 12% to 44% of patients in hospice or with serious, terminal illnesses may not have any formal advance directives in place upon admission.

Hospice teams can help guide these important discussions with sensitivity and care. It’s something we really prioritize at Heart’n Soul Hospice, because a little preparation can bring tremendous peace. ACP ultimately provides clarity during the hardest, most emotional times.

The first day of spring reminds us that even in life’s most fragile chapters, there can be moments of renewal.

In hospice care, renewal doesn’t always mean recovery. Sometimes it means reconciliation, peace, a meaningful conversation, or even a shared memory.

As the season shifts, we honor the quiet ways that hope still shows up, even in difficult seasons.

🌷 May this new season bring moments of joy.

Certified nurses bring advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and deep clinical skill to hospice care — but what we see families remembering most is their presence.

From managing pain with precision, to anticipating needs before they’re spoken and providing reassurance when fear creeps in, nurses are the backbone of hospice care.

On Certified Nurses Day, we thank our nurses for their care that blends excellence with empathy.

It fills our hearts with gratitude whenever we get the opportunity to extend care and compassion to our community.

This past weekend, our Director of Business Development from our Miami Team, Landa Naya, did just that as she represented Heart'n Soul Hospice at the University of Miami Physicians Health Fair at the YMCA in Allapattah, Florida to help provide free educational resources and health screenings to underserved community members.

Alongside the tireless efforts of UM DOCS, a student-led community outreach program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Landa was able to provide education on end-of-life care to those who may have otherwise not been able to get these essential resources.

We couldn't be more honored to play a small part in the continued effort to make healthcare more accessible for everyone.

A common myth we'e always sad to hear about hospice is that it doesn’t make much of a difference since it cannot change the outcome of a terminal illness.

The truth is that hospice makes a huge impact because it changes the patient and the family’s experience.

Patients who receive hospice care often experience better symptom management, more comfort, and greater emotional support. In fact, research has shown that hospice care has a positive impact on quality of life and well-being, with some patients living an average of nearly three months longer than those receiving standard care alone.

Hospice doesn’t mean giving up. It means choosing comfort, dignity, and meaningful time. And that makes all the difference in the world.

Hospice volunteers bring companionship, conversation, and comfort in ways that are simple yet profound.

Volunteering at Heart’n Soul Hospice is a compelling way of supporting the families we serve as well as our mission — which is to ensure that everyone has information and access to high-quality, compassionate care when facing a life-limiting illness.

From assisting in our offices, fielding telephone calls, or creatively bringing music, art, and pet care to our patients, there are many opportunities for you to share your heart and soul with our communities.

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who lead and hold so much. Nurses who bring comfort, social workers who steady families, daughters who become caregivers, friends who show up without being asked, and many others.

Often, women quietly carry the emotional weight of caregiving at work and at home. Today is a beautiful reminder to show them love in small, meaningful ways:

✨ Send a handwritten note telling them how much they matters.
✨ Offer to take over a task or errand for the day.
✨ Drop off coffee, flowers, or their favorite treat.
✨ Give them time — a walk, a conversation, an afternoon to rest.
✨ Simply say, “I see how much you do.”

In hospice care, we witness the strength, tenderness, and resilience of women every day. To every woman giving care, leading with compassion, and loving deeply — thank you. You are seen. You are valued. You are extraordinary.

In hospice care, social workers are often the quiet anchors who work behind the scenes to help provide multiple layers of support during life’s most difficult times.

They help families navigate complex decisions, process anticipatory grief, coordinate resources, and find clarity in moments that feel overwhelming. They sit at kitchen tables. They answer late-night calls. They help untangle paperwork and emotions.

During National Social Work Month, we honor the compassion, advocacy, and calm presence our social workers bring to every family.

Maybe you’ve experienced the gift of a social worker yourself. This month, join us in thanking them; no one walks alone because of their compassionate work and listening hearts.

A common myth about hospice is that only patients with cancer can benefit from hospice care. And it’s just not true.

While about 30% of hospice patients do have a primary diagnosis of cancer, that leaves nearly 70% of hospice care patients who are facing a different primary diagnosis, which could include heart disease, dementia, lung disease, stroke, or chronic kidney disease — or something else entirely.

Hospice care teams and medical professionals are trained to manage the symptoms of many life-limiting conditions, not just cancer.

National Caregivers Day is for the quiet heroes — the ones who show up every day with love, even when it’s hard. Even when it’s exhausting. Even when it’s devastating.

If you’re caring for a loved one, please hear this: It’s okay to be tired. Your feelings are valid. Your love is seen. And you don’t have to do this alone.

At Heart’n Soul Hospice, we care for caregivers too — because your well-being matters. We want you to hear this: You are allowed to rest, to ask for help, and to care for yourself.

If you know a caregiver, here are some easy ways to support them:

✨ Send a thoughtful card or message. This helps let them know they’re seen.
✨ Prepare or deliver a warm meal. Or drop off groceries or snacks.
✨ Send flowers or a small gift that will bring a bit of light to their day.
✨ Offer them an afternoon off. Even a short break can help restore energy.
✨ Help out with household chores, laundry, or errands.

These small acts of kindness can carry caregivers through heavy days.

Dementia often brings a grieving process long before the goodbye.

Care partners play a significant role in not only supporting someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, but also their family — and that’s something we take very seriously at Heart’n Soul Hospice, offering practical, emotional, and educational help.

During Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care Staff Education Week, we honor the caregivers who love through change — offering patience, reassurance, and presence when recognition fades.
We understand the complexities, challenges, and sadness of everything you’re navigating — and ongoing education allows us to bring both skill and compassion to every situation.
