I’m a mental health therapist and I approve this message 😉 ☕️.
In all seriousness, it’s hard to find energy and positivity some days. So when you’re tired and need a boost, coffee is certainly an option but also some invigorating in breaths and gentle movement can help. And when positivity is hard to come by and you don’t have the mental capacity to solve all your problems at once, try taking a mini break (think 2-5 mins), get a drink or small nibble you enjoy, and just savor it. Give yourself permission to let go of the rest of your mental load for those few moments and enjoy it.

I love summer. Not because of the season itself but because everything feels more relaxed. People seem less serious and schedules aren’t as tight. 🌞😎☀️🌻🏖️
So often we lose our sense of structure with kids out of school, co-workers on vacation, taking time off, etc.
Too much structure is exhausting which is probably one reason we enjoy summer. But also structure can help us to stay healthy mentally and physically.
So I encourage clients to find one or two routines that they can maintain during the summer regardless of other schedule changes. Whether it’s 5-minutes of stretching and breathing before bed or a short check-in with yourself at midday. Just something that helps to keep on top of wellness.

I have a lot of clients who recognize that their reactions don’t fit or are disproportionate to a situation and therefore think of themselves as “crazy”. But they’re not crazy. They’re wounded. Their emotional reactions fit the context of their whole life, not solely the present.
Wounded, not crazy.
If you want to change your reactions, you have to heal your wounds.

If the state of the world and all the angry tension these days is getting you down, just remember there’s still lovely people out there who make it their mission to bring a little joy to others’ days simply because they know they need it.

The Christmas tree is up at The Middle Path . Such a lovely object to help keep focus on the beauty of this season.
It’s a time of year that’s dressed up like a couple on date night. We get intentional about relationships and things that bring us joy.
Sometimes though the season is so dressed up that it’s hard to see things that really need work. Our anxiety, addictions, and self-care can get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
Say no to activities if you’re feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Carve out quiet, reflective time in the most frenetic season of the year. Breathe. Slow down. Nap.
If you can take care of yourself now, then there will be less need for resolutions in January.

Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. I don’t have to shop for a million people. I don’t have to go to dozens of parties. In fact, apart from a team effort cooking sesh, there’s no requirements at all.
I run a 5k 🦃 🏃🏼‍♀️ It’s my favorite activity that day. So many families and everyone dressed in silly get ups. I wear a turkey toboggan that says “Run now, Gobble later” on the back. It’s so communal.
And then I get to eat a meal with some of my favorite people on the planet.
All of this is 100% a privilege. Not everyone has a great family or nearby fam. Not everyone can run or walk. Food is scarce for others.
What is my favorite day may be someone else’s worst.
What this post boils down to is this… be kind. Whether it’s to a family member or a co-worker who doesn’t have family in town. Or maybe it’s yourself. Be kind. Be gentle. Be generous. Say no to things that stress you out.
Kindness may mean allowing yourself to not be responsible for everyone else around you. And that’s okay too.
Whatever it is, take some time in the early part of this week to ask yourself what you really need and then do or ask for it kindly.

Today I had the pleasure of visiting a small farm (Whispering Hearts Farm) in Franklin, TN.
This precious place offers equine therapy and I cannot imagine a more serene place to do some healing work.
I left feeling so calm. Getting to meet Cyndi and her horses, Butter and Lollipop, dog, Oliver (who is my new best friend), and the barn cat, Ellie, have made my day.
Finding time to spend in the peace of nature and with gentle animals is a balm to the soul. 10/10 would recommend ☺️🐴 🐈‍⬛ 🐕

When my car is more attuned to my needs than I am 🤦🏼‍♀️😜.
Take breaks, friends.
Take little ones during the day where you give yourself permission to not think about stressors.
Take a day off. Not to be productive or because you’re sick. Just take a day to be or have fun.
When we don’t take breaks everything feels heavier and harder.
Find at least five minutes today to stop work or whatever you’re doing and just be.
