While bacterial vaginosis (BV) can sometimes go away on its own, it's still important to get tested and receive treatment. According to the CDC, if gone untreated, BV can raise your chances of contracting HIV if you are intimate with someone who is HIV positive and a higher possibility of passing along HIV if you are HIV positive. BV also puts you at a greater risk of contracting other STDs, pelvic inflammatory disease, and having an early delivery if you have BV while pregnant.
