Restore Small Groups

Restore Small Groups Helping people transform their lives through safe, quality, and affordable peer-to-peer small groups. Everyone is struggling with something. You are not alone!

In small group, we extend love, empathy, and respect to each other in our shared humanity. Our groups consist of 5 to10 participants and 2 trained facilitators, all who commit to an 8-week journey together. In group we get to the heart of our struggles, building intentional, healing relationships on the way. With thousands of participants worldwide, we have seen transformation in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-worth, grief and loss, rage, loneliness, or anything else holding you back from a full life. Restore Small Groups was founded by Scott Reall at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and now operates as it's own non-profit. Scott and Executive Director Sara Hamill work to intentionally provide Journey to Freedom, our flagship book, and other small groups as a means to offer a path to lasting transformation for anyone dealing with life's struggles.

This is why Restore groups matter.
Week after week, people find a safe space to be honest, supported, and understood.
Because change doesn’t happen in isolation.
It happens in community — with others who walk with you as you rebuild trust, courage, and possibility.

This is the work we do. Together.

Gusto exists to help small organizations care well for their people so they can focus on what they do best. That’s exactly why Restore uses Gusto: their payroll and HR tools allow our small staff to stay organized, supported, and free to pour our time into what matters most—helping people heal.

For 25 years, Restore Small Groups has walked alongside individuals carrying heavy emotional burdens—grief, trauma, addiction, anxiety, and loneliness. We create safe, faith-centered communities where people can finally breathe, be honest, and begin to heal.

Gusto supports small businesses and nonprofits across America, empowering them just like they empower us. Their mission to strengthen people-first workplaces aligns deeply with our mission to strengthen people from the inside out.

Winning the would help Restore:
✨ Bring groups to rural and underserved communities already asking for help
✨ Train more facilitators to lead healing conversations
✨ Make our curriculum accessible to organizations that desperately need it

We’re grateful for companies like Gusto that invest in small organizations making a big
impact—and we’re honored to share how Restore is part of that story.

Hope is moving. Healing is multiplying. And tools like Gusto help us keep going.

Most of us learned to trade authenticity for “connection”, but it always leaves us feeling alone. In Restore groups, we practice being real again and discover that true connection grows where we are fully seen.

This is the work we do in Restore groups. We tell the truth about what hurts, and we let others stay with us as we find our way forward. Research shows that naming our pain in the presence of safe, supportive people lowers stress in the body and helps the brain begin to heal. We were never meant to do this alone.

Recently, Journey to Freedom in Kenya’s Western Region celebrated a powerful milestone — 46 graduates completed four books of the Journey series!

Led by Paul Serum, along with the Eldoret Journey Team: Rodgers, Rosa, and Martha, the ceremony at St. Matthews ACK Cathedral was filled with joy, gratitude, and transformation. The event was also graced by Keith Gafner, one of the founding members of JTF Kenya.

“A heartfelt thank you to our amazing team for their selfless hearts, to Restore International for empowering this movement of healing, and to Scott Reall for sharing a vision that continues to change lives across the world.” —Paul Serum

Unresolved loss and pain doesn’t disappear. It waits, it stays unintegrated, and it keeps trying to surface in our reactions, relationships, and patterns. When we finally turn toward and grieve what we’ve carried, honesty becomes the first step toward freedom and a healthier way forward.

Unresolved loss has a way of shaping our reactions today without us even noticing. So many of our struggles trace back to things we wish had been better, different, or more. When we face those places with honesty, we can stop repeating old patterns and make room for a new beginning.

Across the world, people are finding freedom through Restore groups.
In Mombasa, Kenya, Monica leads Journey to Freedom groups with women seeking new beginnings after lives of exploitation.
Her heart for healing and her courage to show up in hard places remind us what love in action really looks like.

Grace doesn’t just make us better, it makes us new.
What started as behavior change becomes heart transformation.
This is consecration: when the struggle itself becomes sacred,
and our desire begins to turn toward love.
