In Loving Memory of Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Garner

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Louise Garner, on December 28th, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Betty was the loving center of our family, and her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her.

Betty was born on August 4, 1939, in Johnstown, PA, to Robert and Mary Smith. She grew up in Detroit, MI, alongside her brother, Bobby, who preceded her in death. It was in high school in Detroit that Betty met the love of her life, Jim Garner. Their romance blossomed with Betty cheering on the sidelines as a cheerleader while Jim shone as a star basketball player.

Betty and Jim shared a beautiful life together for 68 years. Their journey took them across the globe as they followed Jim's career in the Air Force, living in Oregon, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Germany before retiring in Waverly, TN. In Waverly, Betty became a cherished member of the community through her work on the administrative staff at Waverly Hospital.

Betty was an extraordinary homemaker, a gifted cook, and a devoted grandmother. Her home was the heart of family gatherings, filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious aromas of her cooking. She possessed a brilliant mind and a wonderful sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her. Her creativity knew no bounds, as she could fashion beautiful crafts from the simplest of materials.

Betty's compassionate nature extended to all living things. She was a dedicated caregiver to many family members throughout the years and held a special place in her heart for animals, particularly cats.

Betty will be missed immensely by her loving husband, Jim; her son, Jimmie, and his wife, Joyce; her daughter, Laura; her five grandchildren: Kristin, Kari, Thomas, Skylar, and Chanlar; and her four great-grandchildren: Maggie, Marianne, Emmiline, and Dale.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will continue to inspire us.

Frances Ann Jones

Frances “Ann” Jones, 83, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025.

A generous and caring woman, her greatest joys came from spending time with her family and the many beloved pets that accompanied her through the years. Her favorite pastimes were bird watching, listening to music and cooking, for which she was quite renowned. Her strawberry cake was legendary and eagerly sought out at the many gatherings she and David hosted over the years. She was an advocate for those less fortunate and taught us to love and be kind to all, and to appreciate the beauty of the world around us.

She is survived by her husband, David Jones, children Melanie, Elgin (Terri), Kyle (Roxie), and Tamara (Troy), grandchildren Coltyn (Valerie), Reyna, & Parker.

She is also survived by her sister, Lois, brother Tom (Mae), and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Mike Kersey

George Michael “Mike” Kersey was born on June 19, 1952, in Camp Polk, LA, and passed on December 16, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 73 after battling lung cancer. During his life, Mike lived in Jacksonville Fla for 30 yrs, Charleston, SC for 11 yrs, as well as the Mediterranean Sea, via USS Canopus, USS Trippe, USS Dewey, USS Stark and a South American deployment via the USS John Rodgers.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, George Gerald Kersey and Jacqueline Steele Kersey; and brother, Jay Allen Kersey

Mike is survived by his life-long partner, Teresa Kersey; children, Adrienne Rachelle Kersey and Nicole Michelle Kersey; grandchildren, Tristen Collice Morgan, and Roman Natchez Morgan; siblings, Jan Elaine Von Bokel (Sam), Colleen Kay Gartner (Todd), and Brian Eugene Kersey (Kim).

During Mike’s military career, he was a Chief Petty Officer and retired from the USN after over 21 years of service.

Mike greatly enjoyed guns, knives, planes, & trains – we celebrate the life of a multi-talented musician, composer, artist, history buff, proud veteran and Harley enthusiast. He embraced the world with an unsatisfiable drive to create and express, drawing inspiration from his deeply held Christian beliefs and a profound reverence for Native American culture.

Throughout his life, he explored the world while serving his country, playing music for thousands in festivals abroad, and composed and recorded dynamic rhythms. His love for adventure was matched only by his passion for history, which fueled countless “discussions” and stories that magnetized friends and family.

In his later years, he channeled his creativity into woodworking, crafting pieces that reflected his artistic spirit and connection to the world around him. He had a unique ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger. For Mike, every creation was more than just a work of art; it was a bridge connecting him to others and God.

Services will be held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home on Monday, December 22nd. Visitation will start at 9:30am, and go until 11:30am, with the funeral service starting at 11:30. The interment, including military honors, will immediately follow the service at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
