A native of Huntsville, Alabama, he received his bachelor of science degree from Sewanee: The University of the South, graduating magna cm laude. He completed his medical degree at University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Robbins completed a five-year general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, followed by two additional years of plastic surgery training at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, which is consistently ranked as best-in-class for hospitals and surgical training. Dr. Robbins is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and he is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a member of the Aesthetic Society. Dr. Robbins has presented at plastic and reconstructive surgery conferences throughout the nation and has published his research on breast reconstruction in the Annals of Plastic Surgery, an independent, peer-reviewed journal highlighting the latest advances in plastic surgery.

A question we often hear is, “Am I too old for a mommy makeover?”

In most cases, the answer is no. If a patient is healthy and the procedure is appropriate from a risk standpoint, age by itself is not the deciding factor.

This 60 year old patient elected to have a mastopexy without augmentation. Not every breast lift requires implants. When natural breast tissue has good density, shape and position can often be restored beautifully with a lift alone.

Her surgical plan also addressed loose abdominal skin and muscle separation to create a more balanced, rejuvenated result.

A lower body lift is often best described as an extended tummy tuck.

In a standard tummy tuck, the incision runs low in the panty line from hip to hip. When that incision continues around toward the back to remove excess skin and improve contour, it becomes a lower body lift.

Terminology such as belt lipectomy or circumferential lipectomy may also be used, but the goal is the same. To address loose skin that cannot be corrected with liposuction alone.

If a patient has excess fat with good skin elasticity, liposuction may be sufficient. However, when loose skin is present and will not recoil, a more comprehensive approach is necessary.

For appropriate candidates, a lower body lift can improve lower back contour, enhance the appearance of the buttocks, and create a more balanced silhouette.
