This year, over $21,000 was raised by Southwestern Advantage U.S. student reps during “service week” in the summer. This is where student reps have the option to give a small portion of their personal profit to a cause that they can also visit in-person during their incentive trip.

The recipient this year is a girl’s safe house in Cancun called Casa Hogar San Jose de la Inmaculada, which is run by missionary nuns. They take girls in who have families too poor to care for them or who come from abusive situations. The girls are enrolled in school, receive healthcare, and are fed and clothed. Currently, they have 14 girls ranging in age from 2 to 18.

With the funds raised, we are adding on to their existing housing structure to create room for eight more girls. In addition to the building project, we were also able to secure school supplies for the entire year, a lawn mower, a new picnic table, and some other needed supplies.

Over the past eight years, Southwestern Advantage student reps have helped 26 different organizations via our 'Share The Advantage' initiative. Those organizations have included orphanages, daycares, parks, schools, special needs centers, a school of music, a school for the deaf and mute, and a special family with difficult circumstances. We seek out organizations and individuals who are genuinely assisting with the needs of the community that involve long-term solutions.
