April Showers Bring… POLLEN + FLOWERS 💐

Spring is beautiful… but so can be the struggle with allergies, sneezing, itchy eyes, and sinus pressure 🤧

At Fresh Start Wellness (FSW), we believe this season is a reminder:
Your body may just need a little extra support right now.

✨ Little Spring Facts:
• Tree pollen peaks in early spring (oak, cedar, pine)
• Rain can temporarily reduce pollen—but also helps plants bloom (meaning more pollen later!)
• Your immune system can become overwhelmed = allergy symptoms

🌿 Common Signs Your Body Needs Support:
• Constant sneezing or runny nose
• Brain fog or fatigue
• Sinus pressure/headaches
• Itchy throat, ears, or eyes

💚 Natural Ways to Support Your Body This Season:

🍯 Local Raw Honey
A small daily amount may help your body adapt to local pollen over time

🌿 Herbal Teas for Relief:
• Nettle leaf – supports histamine response
• Peppermint – opens airways
• Ginger – reduces inflammation
• Chamomile – calms irritation

🥗 Anti-Inflammatory Foods:
• Pineapple (contains bromelain)
• Leafy greens
• Turmeric + black pepper
• Citrus fruits (vitamin C boost)

Simple Daily Habits:
• Rinse sinuses (saline or neti pot)
• Shower after being outdoors
• Keep windows closed during high pollen days
• Stay hydrated

🌱 FSW Reminder:
Your symptoms are not random—your body is communicating. Support it gently, naturally, and consistently.

If you’ve been feeling “off”, it might not just be the weather 🌦️

If you love Kombucha or love gut health ideas consider..

Natto!

It's a traditional Japanese fermented soybean food made with Bacillus subtilis var. natto, giving it its characteristic sticky texture and strong aroma.

Savory Natto Rice Bowl

Ingredients:
1 package natto
1 serving warm short‑grain rice (steamed)
1 raw egg yolk (optional)
1–2 T soy sauce or tamari
1 t karashi mustard (or yellow mustard)
1–2 T chopped green onions
1–2 T bonito flakes for umami

Optional: avocado, cucumber, kimchi, pickles, nori

Instructions:
Stir natto fast in the container until it is a foam/string consistency.

Add soy sauce/tamari and mustard to the natto, mix.
Top the rice with the seasoned natto and add the egg, green onion, and bonito.

Use how you like! Toast, pasta, soup, salads. Tell us yours!

⚠️ What to Know Before Eating Natto
Strong taste/texture is acquired:
Many find the taste and smell bold, and taste is the most impactful factor on preference.

PubMed Central
Interaction with medication: High vitamin K2 content means it can affect blood clotting — discuss with your clinician if you’re on blood thinners.

Healthline
Allergies/sensitivities: Those with soy allergies or digestive sensitivities should be cautious and start with small portions.

People have asked me why I started Fresh Start Wellness.

The truth is, my journey into natural health started with learning how much our everyday products can affect our bodies.

The more I studied nutrition, herbal remedies, and holistic health, the more I realized how powerful simple natural ingredients can be.

Fresh Start Wellness is my way of sharing that journey and helping others learn about healthier choices for their bodies.

I truly believe small changes can lead to big improvements in health over time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this page and encouraged me along the way. It means more than you know.

I started reading soap ingredient labels… and I was honestly shocked.

Many products labeled “moisturizing” actually contain ingredients that can strip your skin of its natural oils.

Some even contain synthetic fragrance blends that can include dozens of undisclosed chemicals.

It made me start asking a simple question:

What if soap was made the way it used to be… with real oils, herbs, and natural ingredients?

That question is what started my journey into natural soap and holistic wellness.

Have you ever looked at the ingredient list on your soap or body wash?

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and what you put on it matters more than most people realize.

Many commercial soaps contain ingredients like synthetic fragrance, harsh detergents, and preservatives that can dry out or irritate the skin.

Natural soaps made with real oils, herbs, honey, and oatmeal can help support the skin’s natural barrier instead of stripping it.

Healthy skin starts with simple, nourishing ingredients.

At Fresh Start Wellness, I’m passionate about helping people move toward more natural choices for their bodies and their homes.

Cramps act like tiny internal protestors demanding attention. Our instinct? Find a quick fix (and sometimes we need that).

BUT the ongoing ones...

Holistic practitioners play detective—following symptoms as clues instead of just duct‑taping them.
We use those little discomforts to know the body’s way of sliding us a map that says, “Start healing here.”

If you’re into the whole “food as medicine” vibe, like me, here are some gentle, natural helpers:

Ginger: Your little anti‑inflammatory friend. Grate fresh ginger into hot water. Then drink... lol

Magnesium: Most of us are running low on it, yet it’s the mineral that helps muscles unclench. Add avocados, almonds, spinach in that salad. You'll get lots of it!

Supplements: If you take them, choose wisely. Not all magnesium is created equal—do a little homework so you don’t end up with the useless kind.

Epsom salt baths + raspberry leaf tea: Granny was right. Raspberry leaf is basically a spa day for your uterus.

Turmeric has curcumin, another anti‑inflammatory. I sprinkle it on everything like golden fairy dust—potatoes, eggs, etc.

Any one or combination of these may be worth a shot.

Cramps are part of being human, but giving our body some balance, nourishment, and a dash of holistic love can make a much bigger difference than we often realize. 🫶

Back to Kombucha Pt 3:

A SCOBY (which stands for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) is the living culture used to turn sweet tea into kombucha. Think of it as the “starter” that makes fermentation happen.

It looks like a thick, rubbery pancake that floats on top of the tea. While it may look a little unusual at first, it’s completely natural and safe to use.

The SCOBY contains beneficial bacteria and yeast that create the tangy flavor and natural probiotics found in kombucha.

Believe it or not, it’s even edible! Some people blend extra SCOBY into smoothies, dehydrate it into fruit leather–style snacks, or use it in homemade dog treats.

Your soleus muscle, located in the lower leg, does more than support your steps — it plays a crucial role in circulation. As part of the body’s natural “muscle pump” system, the soleus helps return blood from your legs back to your heart, working against gravity to keep your blood flowing smoothly.

This natural pump only activates when you move — especially during walking, toe raises, or standing stretches. Without regular movement, blood can pool in the lower legs, increasing your risk of swelling, varicose veins, or even deep vein thrombosis.

Here’s the holistic solution: Take short walks every hour
Try simple movements like heel raises (even while seated)
Use compression socks if needed
Elevate your legs when resting

Even more exciting? A 2022 study from the University of Houston found that activating the soleus muscle may also improve glucose metabolism and fat burning — supporting metabolic health naturally.

At Fresh Start Wellness, we believe in supporting the body’s built-in healing systems. So whether you’re working at a desk or standing for long periods, don’t forget to move with intention — your “second heart” depends on it.
