Spring tends to bring more energy, more movement, and more time spent outside…all things the body generally enjoys! 🤍 As your routine changes, the nervous system plays a key role in helping the body adapt smoothly.

Most people think stress has to be big to have an impact. A major illness, an injury, or a big life event. But what we often see affecting people day to day is something much quieter…small, repeated stress that adds up over time.

Your nervous system is designed to handle stress, but it also needs opportunities to reset. When small demands stack up without enough recovery, the body can start to feel tired, tense, or overwhelmed - even if nothing feels dramatically wrong.

Here are some common examples of the small stressors that can add up more than people realize:

✔ Rushing all day long – Constantly moving from one thing to the next keeps your body in a low-level stress response. Even if each task is manageable, never slowing down can be exhausting for your nervous system.

✔ Background noise and stimulation – TVs, phones, notifications, and busy environments keep the brain processing input all day long. Without moments of quiet, the nervous system rarely gets a true break.

Bedwetting is more common than many parents realize, and for most kids, it isn’t something they’re doing on purpose or something they can simply “try harder” to control.

Nighttime bladder control is actually a developmental process that depends on communication between the brain, nerves, and bladder. That means the nervous system plays a much bigger role than most people expect.

Here are a few things that matter when it comes to nighttime dryness:

🌙 The brain has to recognize the signal - During sleep, the brain needs to receive and respond to signals from the bladder. For some kids, that communication is still maturing.

🧠 The nervous system has to coordinate the response - Staying dry overnight requires timing, muscle control, and awareness - all of which are guided by the nervous system.

😴 Sleep cycles play a role - Some children sleep very deeply and have a harder time transitioning between sleep stages when their body is trying to wake them.

The good news is there are some simple things you can do today to help your body settle into the new rhythm more smoothly:

☀️ Get outside for a few minutes – Natural light helps reset your internal clock and tells your brain when it’s time to be awake and alert.

🚶‍♀️ Move your body – Even 10 minutes of movement can boost your mood, energy, and even your ability to fall asleep later on. Whether it’s yoga, a quick walk, or a dance break - just get moving!

🕰 Shift your evening just a little earlier – Eating dinner, starting your wind-down routine, or getting kids ready for bed 15–20 minutes earlier can help your body ease into the new schedule without feeling rushed.

But, even when you’re not actively paying attention, your nervous system is still processing all of that input. Over time, constant background stimulation can make it harder for the body to truly relax and recharge.

Here are a few ways this can affect the nervous system:

🔊 The brain is always filtering input - Your nervous system is constantly deciding what to pay attention to and what to ignore. That filtering process takes energy, even when the noise seems minor.

😵‍💫 It can keep the body in a low-level “alert” state - Continuous stimulation makes it harder for the nervous system to fully shift into a calm, settled mode, which can impact sleep, focus, and energy.

As winter gives way to spring, longer days and brighter mornings are ahead, but it’s a major change in rhythm for your body! ☀️ While this seasonal change is often welcomed, the transition into daylight savings time can still feel quite noticeable - especially when it comes to sleep. 😬

Sleep is directed by the brain and nervous system, and it depends heavily on consistent light cues and daily patterns. When daylight suddenly shifts, the nervous system has to adjust how it times sleep, wakefulness, and recovery. For some, that adjustment happens quickly. For others, it takes a little more support.

During seasonal transitions, the nervous system may respond by:
