As the crisp November air settles in, we reflect on the deep roots of family and tradition here at Greenlawn. This month marks a very special milestone for us!

The story of Greenlawn began back in 1958 when Page Brown’s grandfather, James Beasley, purchased this peaceful property. He had a vision: to create a quiet, beautiful sanctuary where families could find comfort.

That vision has been lovingly carried forward through the generations for the past 67 years.

On November 1, 2014, Page and Randy took on the stewardship of Greenlawn. That means this month marks 11 years of them caring for this special place and continuing the family legacy.

Today, Greenlawn spans 30 acres of rolling hills, maintained with the same care as a family garden. We are proud stewards of this natural beauty, from the shade of our oak trees and the peace of the duck pond, to the beauty of the picturesque statues and the delightful sight of our peacocks.

Thank you for being part of our Greenlawn family. We are deeply honored to offer a place of enduring peace, rooted in history and growing with tradition, for the next generation and beyond.

Remembering H.H. (Hilory) Harrison, Jr.
March 15, 1934 - November 21, 2025

Graveside services for H.H. Harrison, Jr. (Hilory), 91, who died peacefully at home on Friday, November 21, 2025, were held Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 2PM at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Natchez, MS, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home with Russell Wagoner officiating.

Hilory graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and quickly joined the Navy serving for two years. Upon completion of his tour, he started his career with Schlumberger in July of 1955 and retired almost 38 years later in April of 1993. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Churchill Methodist Church.

Many of his co-workers joked after their long careers that he still had the first penny he ever made suggesting that he was “tight” with his money! While there is probably a lot of truth to that, the flip side is that he ensured that his grandchildren had accounts opened in their name to which he contributed monthly. In addition, to make it more interesting for him, he designated certain dates of certain coins for each child and as he obtained these he deposited them into their accounts. Over time, as you can imagine, this added up leaving each something unexpected to use in their future as needed. He continued this practice with his “great-grands” as well.

Hilory was an avid fan and follower of high school sports! He started this with his own children and grandchildren, but continued long after he no longer personally had anyone in the game. He not only watched the games, he took his own stats for all players on both teams even for entire tournaments in his notepads. He could tell you what each player scored and how many fouls at any given time. He did this until he was no longer physically able to attend and this was one of the things he missed the most in his later years.

Hilory also loved Native American history and artifacts especially arrowheads. For years he would spend hours walking fields looking for arrowheads relishing every “find”. He also enjoyed attending and participating in “rock or gem shows” across the country and as a result acquired quite the collection.

Hilory was preceded in death by his parents, H. H. Harrison, Sr. and Cleo Lindley Harrison; his siblings; Peggy Harrison Smith and Donald Harrison; his nephew, Kent Smith, and his grandson, Matthew Harrison Marks.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Foster Harrison, his children, Patricia Harrison Marks (Byrnsie) and Glenn Harrison (Mary Alice); his grandchildren, Kittye Marks Mason (Trey), Melissa Marks Partin, Reese Pate (Jennifer), and Adam Pate (Kristen) and 14 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grand-daughter-in-law, Abby Givens Marks.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Compassus Hospice. Special recognition and appreciation goes to Magan Dollar, Madison Holder, Jackie Hudspeth, Pat Sims, and Heather Wilson. The care, compassion, and support provided was priceless for our family.

Pallbearers include Glenn Harrison, Byrnsie Marks, Trey Mason, Reese Pate, Adam Pate and John Tuttle.

If you would like to make a donation in his memory, please consider either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Batson Children’s Hospital at UMMC as these were both important to him.

He was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church. He was employed at the Natchez Walmart Supercenter for 32 years and was a friend to all, his second family. He also worked at Domino’s Pizza, delivering pizzas to all of Natchez’s folks; there wasn’t a street in Natchez that he had not traveled. Michael’s trademark was kindness and remembering one’s name. He always had a kind word to greet you with, and when that wasn’t quite enough, you might get a little hug and a heartfelt Who Dat! There has never been a more devoted and enthusiastic Saints fan. He was a die-hard Superdome visitor every home Sunday for years. During the off-season, which means baseball season, he loved his Astros and always kept an eye on the Yankees; he even went to a Mets game once. Michael was a simple man who inspired us to look a little closer and find the good that existed in everyone. He didn’t need much in return. Michael was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was the source of a thousand points of light in his life. We ask that you pray for this good man and carry a bit of his kind and humble spirit forward so that he will never truly leave us. You never know how much someone means to you until they are gone.

(Karen Pennington, M.D.) Pennington, Jr. M.D, Gerald Martin (Clare) Pennington, Peggy Ann Pennington (Malcom) McLain, Joyce Yvonne Pennington McNeil, Jennifer Lynn Pennington (Ty) Rogers; nephews and nieces, Jason Pennington (Hannah), Brandon McLain, Cole Pennington, Ian Pennington, Whitney McNeil, Zack Pennington, Mae Pennington, Sadie Pennington, Rachel Pennington (Cory) Hogue, Jessica McNeil, John Clay McNeil, Sara Caitlyn McLain (Gavin) Mendus, Arya June Rogers, Kayla Rogers; great grandnieces and nephews, Greer Pennington, Grant Pennington Layla McLain, Evan McLain, Caleb McClain, Nora Houge Aunt and Uncle, Pat Pennington, Kenny (Debra) Pennington.

Pallbearers will be nephews and nieces, Jason Pennington, Brandon McLain, Ian Pennington, Zack Pennington, John Clay McNeil, Mae Pennington, and Sadie Pennington.

The family would like to especially thank the wonderful people of the Natchez Walmart Supercenter, along with the folks at Domino’s; they are as much members of Michael’s family as any of us here with Pennington attached in some way to our last name. We thank you for embracing the “Big Cat” and calling him one of your own for the last 32 years!

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Natchez, MS.
